Yep, I got hit whenever I did something wrong and I'm all the better for it. Unfortunately these days parents don't seem to mind letting their children running about like little shits as long as it's not bothering them.
Hell, whenever my nieces and nephews are visiting they end up causing trouble in someway which leads to me saying to my sister "You know you really don't hit your kids enough" to which she replies; "I don't hit my kids at all".
And she wonders why they act like little assholes sometimes and think they can get away with it, it's because they ARE getting away with it. Simply shouting at a kid isn't going to deter them but people these days seem to think that any kind of physical punishment equates to abuse....
I think I'll stop now before this goes into a full blown rant.

My dad spanked me maybe three times, but I remain respectful of him to this day. And anytime he did spank me, like when I slammed the door in his face, that NEVER happened again. He had follow-through and no fear, which is key to discipline.
They did with me. But that kinda goes into the abuse topic with some of it. Also, 'hit' will be applied to more than that in my case. lol

I think beating your kid, if only by spanking them, is just a sign of bad parenting and it shows that you're not being able to control your kid.

My parents spanked me a number of times that I can remember, I font think badly of them for it. I think i would spank my kids if I choose to have them. My girlfriend would not be ok with it though.
I'm under the impression that "hitting" is different from a corrective spanking or smack on the cheek or on the back of your hand. I got spanked sometimes.

My mum never did. She went to a few times though, that was more than enough. And trust me, when you have a mother that can make you wash your OWN mouth out with soap for swearing, that meant a lot.
