So, I wanted to buy the new Dawn of War game, but this is the first computer game I've actually bought in a while, and I'm wondering should I download the game using Steam or just buy the game from a store.

And hear I was hoping for a misplaced music thread. I always buy CDs...since I can then burn them to the computer, PS3, Xbox, and second computers.

Stupid Xbox and PS3. Not having iTunes.

Just use Steam, in this case.

Its hard for me to see any real benefit of having discs, other than having it on the shelf for your own personal OCD type issues; or if you're a frothing-at-the-mouth-anti-steam-fanatic.

Very few of the games I own disks for both work and are locatable.

Every game I've ever bought on steam is still there and can be installed\uninstalled at my leisure.

I would say store, but then again buddha only knows if you are actually gonna find it there.

So, to Steam!

This is pretty much how I feel about it. Steam's just way more convenient all the way around and there's a little less plastic cluttering up my house.

iTunes? Man, I was with you 80% (no Xbox) until I saw iTunes. Call me old fashioned, but I still love my Winamp.

I'm only using iTunes for easier access to all of my gaming podcasts, really.

There's a reason a majority of game sales are physical. Discs work. No problems, no questions asked. Pop it in, enjoy your games. Plus you get the satisfaction of knowing none of your money goes to Valve.

I honestly like having a physical copy. something about collecting things and treasuring things. Steam is definitely useful but I wouldn't go out of my way to buy tons of digital games

As soon as stores sell their entire games library at 70-90% off I am gunna stick with Steam.

Also, good luck keeping your precious CD/DVD intact with a wife and children. All that your value will be destroyed, Steam keeps them safe.

Get a cd and you can play within half an hour.

Get full download through steam and wait 6 hours.

Depends how patient you are.

I still like the assurance that comes with having a physical copy of something I own. Just in case.

Plus having a shelf full of games feels pretty rad.

Whatever, just wash your hands.
dow 2 retribution? I love it but you would be better off just getting it from steam, sadly it doesnt have any instructions and it needs steam anyway so really getting a physical copy just makes the install faster

Im still annoyed it didnt come with a manual, I love those things but the game is awesome

PC games always Steam.Today I wanted to get some fresh air,so I decided to walk down to the store and buy a physical copy of Dage 2.Of course there are none in stock and the clerks all "you gotta pre order man".Fuck that,I don't have to do shit!I'm just gonna go back home and get the game from one of many digital distribution outlets.I hate being bothered with that shit.I understand your just doing your job but my agenda is always clear when I'm going to make a game purchase.Stop trying to up sell me god dammit and quit being so persistent, don't go down the list of all the upcoming games.Just leave me alone!...What was the question again?

This is just my opinion, but Steam definitely. Two things, no disc to lose and you can always delete it from your computer and re-download it later. I currently have 74 games in my Library and only 9 installed currently. That's a huge advantage right there over any other, or most other, digital distribution houses as well. Direct 2 Drive, I remember having to keep keys to the games I bought from them, Steam takes care of this for me. There just isn't any question for me anymore. In fact, I bought a game on disc because it was cheaper than on Steam. Several weeks later when Steam listed it on sale I bought another copy just so I know I'd have it there.

Steam. Ever since I got steam, I've been using it's purchasing system more and more. Though, I do enjoy having a hard copy of a game, Steam allows you to bypass some very overly aggressive DRMs.
