Nothing used to piss me off more than having my Windows 98 computer tell me that I may have destroyed the universe because I didn't shut down Windows out 'properly'. These days I use XP and it's all about pulling your USB out 'safely'.
The times I do bother to disconnect properly I usually get the message that it can't be done right now (while the computer wakes up the harddrive). Then if I do it a second time it disconnects and I get the annoying bubble at the bottom of the screen telling me it's okay.
It's a minor annoyance but we use computers because they're supposed to make complicated things easier so little annoyances or unintuitive programming really irritates me.
I assume it's only dangerous if the computer is in the middle of transferring files. I could be wrong. How to you disconnect a USB device?
