Cohen the Barbarian. The Last Hero and Interesting Times were the best of the Discworld books in my opinion. I also like Didactylos from Small Gods.
Plus Lu-Tze is one of the best characters ever. I would love to have him as a Zen mentor. Always remember Rule One: "Do not act incautiously when confronting little bald wrinkly smiling men".

I'm going to vote for Granny Weatherwax, because she is simply badass. She makes such a memorable team with the rest of the Wyrd Sisters, and has such strength of character. And her magic is tremendous! Besides, "I can't be having with any of that" is my favorite Discworld catchphrase.

My brother was far more into Discworld than me, but I have read The Colour of Magic, and The Light Fantastic and loved them.
Also, I have watched all of the televised film adaptations, The colour of magic (part two was the Light Fantastic) Going postal and of course the Hog Father.

While I'm well aware that there are many many unique characters that I have yet to discover, however Death is by far my favourite, especially his portrayal in the film adaptations.
With Cohen as a close second.

Huzzah for Vimes! And Death, who would've been my second choice.
I've seen most of the screen adaptations and they're a mixed bag. They tend to follow the stories to the letter, but due to the medium they leave out most of the things that make the stories so wonderful. It's one thing to see the animated version of Duke Felmet look nonplussed when the soldier states that young Roger didn't have a bun, and another to know what's going through his head as the soldier explains why.
Getting back to the point, I love Terry Pratchett. I was sad when Douglas Adams passed suddenly; a few months later I discovered Discworld and realized someone else had been doing the same thing, only better, and more prolifically.

How could you misspell Rincewind?! There's no rice in the wind, it's being rinsed!

That said, my favorite characters tend to be pretty one-note. Call it a tossup between Wee Mad Arthur and Foul Ole Ron.

As protagonists go, though, I have a hard time choosing between Sam Vimes and Rincewind. They're like two hilarious sides to the same coin.

David Jason already played Albert in Hogfather, having him play Rincewind as well was just horrible and I think he was completely miscast.

Eric Idle would make the best Rincewind, in my opinion.
Did you every play the Discworld point and click games? Eric Idle voiced Rincewind for those and he was excellent. He also has the appearance for it if you make him up to be a bit ragged.

My favourite character is Vetinari, you might think him a tyrant or a dictator, but he does his job much better than anybody else could do or any group of people could do. He balances each major power in the city and plays foes off against each other. He makes sure everyone in the city is better off with him in charge than without him and makes certain everyone knows it.

If he was in charge of any nation in the world he would manage to turn them into a superpower within five years.

Discworld is coo...
...but you know what is even more coo?

It's so coo that Halo ripped it off.

I like them all, but Sam Vimes 'takes the biscuit'. This is because he is... normal... As stupid as that sounds, one of the best things about Sir Terry is he captures what you would really think at that moment perfectly, and Vimes ends up as a world weary, cynical person (just like you [possibly]), with his own demons (just like you), and fears about everything that anyone else would fear (just like you). I know that I'm not Vimes, but you can't help but identify with him at times.

"What sort of man would put a known criminal in charge of a major branch of government? Apart from, say, the average voter."

Favourite quote from a Discworld novel.

Hmm favourite character is awfully tough. Possibly Mr Teatime for the pure insanity.

Ach, we forgot the Nac Mac Feegles too! Granted they aren't a single character, but their behavior is a little more homogenous than other groups.

I'm going to say DEATH because he's the most consistently funny character imo. Honourable mention to everyone else though

I remember reading some Discworld comics in the school library. Rincewind seemed pretty cool.
