I'm wondering which game to pick up. The genera's they belong aren't my favorite, but I still want to try out a new IP. (O.K, Xcom isn't a new IP, but it's new to me)

I haven't played either but XCom looks great, Dishonored (my english grammar hates that title) looks like a first-person assasin's creed. I probably will pick it up second-hand, but I reckon XCom looks better.
Anyway, it's good to try a range of games, haven't played a strategy in a while.

I only played a demo of Xcom and I already like it. I'd go with that if you're not afraid to play a game where you can get incredibly far only to make one wrong choice that could possibly ruin everything for you.

I haven't played Dishonored so I can't really say anything about that game.

XCOM EU though is a pretty cool game. So I'd definitely recommend it. I love the micromanagement of your base, your soldiers, ect. The aliens are very cool looking, plus it has an optional Iron Man mode in which everything you do is auto saved, so if you mess up, you can't reload and try again.

Ooooh, that's a tough one! I own both and although they are very different, they're both incredibly fun and two of my three choices for GotY (the other one being The Walking Dead).

I'd say Dishonored for the variety and gameplay, and X-Com for the challenge and longevity. Either way, you can't go wrong.

Personally Dishonored impressed me more than XCom. XCom is just too short lived, and there's hardly any variety. Maybe it's because I loved the original so much that I was rather disappointed with this reboot, though.

Spoiler for XCom:
If you want to actually finish the game it's always a race to get Plasma stuff and Ghost armour as soon as you can while sending a couple satellites when needed.

I've played both games and in my opinion Xcom is a lot better. Dishonored didn't really manage to hook me into it and I got a little bored of it quite quickly, whereas Xcom on the other hand had me completely addicted to it.

X-Com'll probably last you longer, and if you can mod it to remove the bullshit it's a lot more fulfilling in a challenging sense than Dishonored is.

I've heard nothing but good things about both so honestly I'd just wait until there's a good enough price reduction to grab both. That's just me though. If I had to chose one over the other I'd go Dishonored because of how inexperienced I am with RTS titles.

They're both excellent and both on my GOTY list. Get both.

XCOM is probably a little more bang for your buck, in terms of length, especially if you like to speed through things.

Depends if you feel like eating an apple or an orange.

They're both very solid games.

What "bullshit" would you be referring to?

The only thing really "wrong" with that game IMO are the random graphical glitches (like when you aim a different direction than you shoot) and the annoying unskippable travel sections in the Skyranger. But neither of those is remotely game-breaking, so I wouldn't say you necessarily need mods to fix it.

I would recommend XCOM. Dishonored is a FANTASTIC game, but XCOM is just as good (if not better) and will give you more for your money.

If you can get Dishonored on sale though, don't hesitate as it is a very fun game.

I was really disappointed by Dishonored. I haven't finished it yet because I keep getting bored with it and going to play something else. The problem may be that I'm going for a no kill run and there's only two ways to disable people without killing them and they get old fast. It desperately needs more nonlethal take downs.

The world is very well realized, there's some interesting characters and a fun premise but the moment to moment game play wore out it's welcome fast. Oh and the big twist towards the end was so hackneyed and predictable it made me roll my eyes and sigh. Some master bodyguard you are.

XCOM on the other hand I have played to the (admittedly pretty lame) end three times. One of, if not the, best games I've played in some time. There's a demo I believe. It's not a great way to gauge your interest but it might help. Check it out.

To sum up, XCOM is great, Dishonored is dragged down by repetition.

How about Sectiods being able to get pretty consistent criticals on my guys across the map, behind half cover and with a height advantage?
I'll call that bullshit.

I enjoyed XCOM, even though I loved the original much, much more.

Also, stay away from the DLC - it's story-based something something, so, if the original, vanilla, genuine XCOM turns out to be your cup of tea, consider it to be spiked with LSD, making you giddy giddy happy and dream of rainbow unicorns in leotards (or whatever tingles your fancybuds), the DLC translates to bath salts, making you eat people's faces.

I voted for Dishonoured since I figured it would be the natural born loser in this vote. The level design is awesomely impressive, the options you have at your disposal to play the game your style, be it magic cyber killer assassin, max APM movie-style room cleaner or invisible shadow or metal gear snake oil cyberpunkish whale oil solid badass, the game is one huge playground. Think Mirror's Edge, with an actual game attached. Most of the mechanics are proper polished and give you unprecedented control over what to do and how to do it.

I'm actually looking forward to getting some DLC for Dishonoured.

Yes, I know there's a bonus U. I like it like that.

Whelp... they are both great games and different enough to make it a difficult choice. Get both if you can. If not

XCOM will likely last you longer, has very good turn-based tactics/base management gameplay, is quite beginner friendly but can be BRUTALLY challenging on Iron Man and higher difficulty settings.

Dishonored has an interesting story, setting and great visual aesthetic. Not very long, but if you like exploration in games, there's a LOT of that, and it's always worth it. Good, fast flowing stealthy or aggressive gameplay (or anywhere between). Pretty good replayability due to multiple choices and paths to take across the levels.

If pure gameplay is what you're after, I'd say get XCOM, it will certainly last you longer since it has pretty much infinite replayability (especially on Iron Man - no going back to old save games if you screw up, baby!). There's pretty much no story except the one you craft yourself. You might end up with a lot of "war stories", and that's part of the appeal.

If you're looking for more of an experience and enjoy new, exciting worlds, settings, characters and so on, then get Dishonored. Doubly so if you like stealth games like Thief or Deus Ex.

Having played these games it really does depend on what you are looking for at the moment.

X-com is a turn based tactical shooter and base building strategy game

While I like it and its presented very nicely, unfortunately I find it lacks depth in several areas this I measure in comparison to the originals and the various X-com clones (UFO; aftermath, aftershock, afterlife. UFO: extraterrestrials, UFO: Alien Invasion) I really feel that they could have, and should have done more with this game than they delivered. Perhaps this will be fixed in DLC, or the various mods which attempt to rebalanced and improve the gameplay. That having been said if you feel up for a squad turn based tactical shooting game, with strategy elements this is the one.

Dishonoured is a stealth-em-up melee super assassin with magical stuff. Basically looking glass's Thief: the dark project and Thief 2: The metal age with more emphasis on assassination and a more modern and prettier engine.

I put my vote in this game, I found it fun, a completely new IP, it had an interesting story, and it's one of those games you can complete in multiple different ways, from sneaking and no combat, to knocking people out, or inhabiting them, or setting traps, overriding turrets and killing enemies environmentally, or going into a killing frenzy with swords or guns. It's also one of those games which you can breeze through faster, or take more time over depending on how much of a challenge you want to set yourself, and how much exploration of the environment you wish to perform, and you get rewarded for doing so, both game rewards and flavour.

I really think if you want a new IP dishonoured is the way to go. Especially if you can only play one and you have no other preferences. If you can, pick up both, since they are very different and will appeal to different tastes. There you go, a bit rambling but those are my thoughts.

What are you hungry for at the moment?

Edit: added a comma and two spaces.
