Just finished Castlevania Lords of Shadow and can't help feeling it was built simply for more £/$ when you get to the end. Don't get me wrong I rate some DLC- Undead Nightmare and Enslaved were ACTUALLY worth it. I'm not fifteen and could get whatever I want game-wise, but struggling to accept some add-ons. Maybe thinking all these self contained games a la Final Fantasy, Tekken, Mario know what they're doing and see to be doing pretty well!!

Long rant short, got any recommendations for WORTHWHILE DLC or any truly rubbish purchases that you regret like a shit haircut? Not including Skins, Costumes and the like- you're already a fool if you went down that route!!!

Love, peace and trophies to all.

I typically don't bother unless it's a bundled deal.

As it stands, the worst type of DLC is the one that goes against everything the game is built on. Operation Anchorage for Fallout 3, Moxxi's Underdome for Borderlands, etc.

I got the DLC for Borderlands. Mad Moxxi sucked, the zombie one was good for grinding the shotgun trophies. Knoxx was fun, but just Okay without fast travel (driving the same two roads over and over again got OLD), and they finally hit the sweetspot with Ninja Assassin Claptrap.

Still, it turned me off DLC. Too much miss for too much money.

Magicka: Vietnam was well worth the price of admission. I got it for $2.50 in a Steam sale and it was great.

That's the only DLC I've ever paid for separately.

I buy DLC only for a few of my core games. Fo:NV and ME2 get the love, and none others. No one has convinced me that other games' DLC is worth the hassle of connecting my X360 to the internet. (I need to use my laptop as a reverse wireless router because the room with my gaming consoles is nowhere near an ethernet port, and our wifi is pitiful, so downloads take FOREVER. So I pick and choose what I decide to commit two hours to downloading very carefully.)

Seenplenty of entertainin' Magicka Vietnam but never played it, love the mash-up topdown style of it all!! Some good banter too!

I liked all the Borderlands DLC for the simple reason that it gave me more incentive to play borderlands. The core gameplay is so much fun that I didn't mind driving the same roads or fighting waves in Moxxie. I had a reason to play Borderlands in new areas and that was enough. Could it have been better? Sure it could have, but I didn't feel like I didn't get my monyes worth.

ME2 DLC is insane. The overlord and shadowbroker packs were the best dlc I've ever seen in a game. I think they set the standard for what good DLC should be. Bad DLC is the dawn of war, pay 7 bucks for an army skin. I love the game but that's a crapton of money for little to nothing. Some skins and such are cool enough to warrant a purchase but it better be cheap.

Worst bang for the buck in the VG industry though as to be League of Legends. They have 20$ skins and the average skin is 6-9 bucks. Highway robbery.

DLC is like... well pretty much anything. It's great when it's used properly, but when it's not used properly it's a double-decker shit sandwich with shit fries.

Just every now and again. Also got some stuff in GOTY editions.

So far I'm fairly happy with my purchases. I've had a couple of disappointments, but I don't feel that I've been genuinely screwed yet.

Top five DLC's huh?

Okay

5 Pure Time Trials (Mirror's Edge) Yes running around on roof tops is fun and all but you know what's even better? Running around on giant floating neon blocks suspended above an endless abyss.
4 Broken Steel (Fallout 3): Hey! remember how the end of Fallout 3 sucked ass? Of course not, because according to the DLC Fallout 3 didn't end in a way that make me go: "I wish I had leveled up my dialing phones with pool cues stat just a little more or this wouldn't have happened."
3 China Cat Sunflower (Rock Band 2) If you don't love this song I have nothing to say to you.
2 The Stone Prisoner (Dragon Age Origins) Shale. That's all, just Shale.
And last but not least
1 Cold Stream (Left 4 Dead 2) I know it's not out yet but it's coming with the other 4 Left 4 Dead 1 campaigns updated with all the fancy new stuff they put in Left 4 Dead 2. Yes the other "4" it's going to have Crash Course in it too so it's five L4D maps in one, with Jockeys, Spitters, Chargers and Melee weapons. It doesn't get better than that.

In games I like, EG Dragon Age, Mass Effect, Fallout, Even Boarderlands, I'll get all the DLC. Especially if there are Achievements tied to it, I love Achievements. (Only for games I like, I would never play something I didn't like just to get achievements, just so we're clear)
As close to "Bad D:C" as I can get would be stuff like Map packs for multyplayer games, but that's only because I don't like multyplayer. And most of the time the maps you're buying all look the same like I can't tell the on disk Modern Warfare maps apart now they want you to buy more? (Oh yeah and skins but you told us not to mention those)

For the most part I like DLC, It's a good way to support games you like. I heard a couple things about that. Buying a $60 game the Developers only get $22 but buying a $10 DLC the developers get $8.50 or something like that, I don't know how reliable those numbers are.

The ones I like best are Oblivion: Shivering Isles, Magicka ones, Dragon Age : Stone Prisoner and Awakening, Fallout 3: The Pitt, Broken Steel. I think Bethesda probably does the best DLC to the point where they overshadow the main plot by far.
