Just because you're a geek doesn't mean everyone else is. Some of us just like video games. Anyway, I don't care. If I like someone it doesn't matter if they're geeky or not. Although I never dated a geek. But that doesn't mean that I wouldn't.

I am going to make kind of a big leap here, assuming that at least a significant percentage of you are geeks of various types(video game geeks, anime geeks, tabletop geeks). Then again, The Escapist is first and foremost a website about video games. So maybe it's not that big a leap after all.
I ask you this, then: when choosing a romantic partner(not necessarily for a lifelong commitment, just for a relationship that is more then a one nighter), is it important to you that the partner be a "geek" like you?
AKA do you dig gamer chicks?
Would you refuse to date someone just because she/he isn't a geek? What if she/he actively hates the object of your geekdom(she won't leave you because you play video games, but she also won't hesitate to tell you that she thinks it's stupid and childish and stuff)?
Seriously, this interests me.
Besides, I need something to do while StarCraft 2 downloads. I might as well open a poll on the Escapist.
I've always been kind of curious as to what the term 'geek' actually encompasses, I'd like to think I'm one but on the other hand compared to any iconic geek I'd likely be a very normal comparisson. I do appreciate geeky... everything really though, be it D&D, Video Games, Cards, Anime, whatever. (Please note that while I have an interest in D&D, the closest I've come is playing NWN2) If i fit your criteria than my answer would have to be... Meh, I'd take any girl that either shares my passions or accepts me for them.

My friends are all a bit geeky in their own way. Point is, we are all a bit of this and that in our own way and in our own time.

Dating? what is this "dating" you speak of?

she would have to be a geek, though, if only because I suffer from the jabber virus. . . and I love sciency stuff. . . "blah blah lisp code blah blah radio-nucleides blah blah transistor grid blah blah DNA pairs blah"

Well all of my girlfriend where non-gamers, It's just hard to meet a gamer girl I like, I meet a few but non of them was the type I would date, well maybe one, but I was in great relationship then.

I think it would be fun to play games with your girlfriend, it opens so many new ways to beat somebody in game :)

Where are the options for 'I am a not a geek and don't/do date geeks?'
Why would you want that option? Your avatar is a love heart with the Lambda symbol and a crowbar going through it, don't try to call yourself a 'non-geek'. :p

OT: I don't really care either way. As long as they're not idiots...
Everyone has something they identify as. I don't happen identify as a geek/nerd because my 'nerdy' interests basically begin and end at video games, and I am not even a hardcore gamer for that matter. I do love games but I game on average somewhere around an hour a day and I have very picky tastes meaning I don't even play a great number of games. I also suck at most games and don't really care enough to improve at most of them.

I hate things like anime etc, and I was never very academic, or anything else that fits under a nerd or geek stereotype. On the other hand I love to go clubbing, I like pop music, I am interested in travel and languages, I love spending time with other people and I am not socially inept, and yeah basically all my other interests don't fall under the nerd stereotype.

So how the hell am I a nerd or a geek? Am I a vegetarian because I like carrots? Being a gamer doesn't necessarily equal nerd or geek.

Just something that annoys me a little :) but I guess I am the only person I have met on this website so far who doesn't identify as such, so I suppose it's alright for people to assume I am one in poll options.

I don't mind.

If they at least acknowledge that you play games but don't have any interest beyond that it's fine by me.

A surprising number of girls game like frat boys now anyway (a 360 and a copy of Halo/CoD, which is all they play) because of their brothers/Dads/boyfriends.

I also know quite a few who just own DSs, so it's really not that hard to find a girl that games at least a little.

I'm not a geek anyway, I just play a lot of games.

I'm quite geeky not on the same scale as some people but certainly geeky. My girlfriend of a year and a half on the other hand is just about the least geeky person I know. She doesn't even have the Internet at her house.

So, not necessarily.

I would love to have a geek girlfriend, unfortunately they all look like that guy from the Goonies and rival Free Willy in their size. Also they don't exist at my school

I like to think I'm not shallow but there are standards you know?

My girlfriend is not a geek, though she says that she enjoys watching me play games, and thinks it's "cute" when I talk about them sometimes (hardly ever), and also when I just randomly quote geeky movies, and say stuff like... start saying "clefairy, clefairy, clefairy. I'm going to hypnotize you." She just breaks out laughing when I say Pokemon stuff, because she used to love it and play the games all the time.

I'm okay with either geek or non-geek, though I prefer a non-geek who thinks I'm cute.

I look for people that I mesh with.

Kinda like what she found. Unfortunately, it's fairly rare out here.
*hugs*

They're out there. I admit, I got really lucky. I'm thankful everyday for that too. :)
I'm not so concerned about not having someone anymore. I was at one point, but I just don't care so much about not having someone anymore. Really helps out.

I would love the person who I will be hanging out with to have at least something in common with me. If she liked geeky stuff, or listened to Nine Inch Nails, that would be cool.

Because of the way i dress and the people i hang around with, people dont regard me as a geek/nerd, but all my close friends know that i really, really am haha xD.

Basically, lets just say i wouldnt really want to date a girl that had no interest in video game, or other geekish, stuff, since its a big part of my life tbh. That is all.

If you can find a non geek who accepts you I can see it but no one other than my fiance has really ever come close to being on that equal level as me and I can't really see myself with anyone else.

I prefer Geeks, since any other variety of 'female' requires you to sift through a sea of liars, misanthropes, and pretender manipulators. Among other things. And a lack of common courtesy/decency.
