Poll: Do Laptop Cooling Pad's work?

First of all it is probably a bad idea to be using a laptop for games like that.

If you have the specs... (I doubt the OP does)


And yeah, mine works nicely. Loud little bugger though.

If you have the specs for it you are dragging around a portable desktop which still has a cooling problem(thought not as badly) and OP would still be here today.

My laptop has no problems running current games on the settings they should be run on based on my hardware. With or without additional cooling, for hours on end. People try too hard to get better graphics, if you play on settings that don't have issues with the frame rate chugging, you'll be fine.

For example, I can run Oblivion on Very High, but I keep it on high because on very high it slows down if the landscape is busy or there is a lot of AI. I can feel it heating up even on the palm rests. After 2 or so hours it'll crash. When I put it on high, it runs stable, and keeps very cool. It doesn't need a cooling pad, and doesn't crash. The frames are smooth and the game is much more enjoyable.

I'd rather not be able to count the leaves on the trees than pay to replace my GPU when it cooks, but most people are backwards that way and push way too far on their machines, which results in issues like in the OP.
