Yes! It's good, because now I can take games with me!

I have a Macbook pro you see. My PC Desktop is good, but it's not very mobile. Portal 2 on the train will be fun.
This is pretty much my situation (or will be after they release the next MBP update so I can finally buy a new one...been sitting on a pile of money set aside for one for months hoping there'd be an i5/i7 update when Intel launched the new CPUs in January, but here we are in March with no news yet). Getting a free Mac version of stuff I already have for my PC (which I only have for games and to use as a media center) is what I was hoping for but not actually expecting, so I'm pretty excited about that, because I was only realistically expecting to be able to play old games or things with low requirements in a VM, because there's no way in hell I'm rebooting constantly to switch OSes.

Edit: Now that I think about it, I think the last Mac game I bought was Enigmo, back when it was new, which was several years ago at this point. Still one of my favorite puzzle games ever, though, and one of the few things I've ever immediately bought within five minutes of finishing the demo.

I think this could be pretty cool. As a PC gamer I'm in favour of anything that increases the user base and this could potentially cause more devs to use OpenGL over DirectX which could in turn lead to more games coming over to Linux.

My only concern is the hardware in Apple computers, for the most part it's completely limp-wristed for gaming and could do with new revisions. I just hope that this doesn't cause Apple to start sniping at non-Apple computers with some BS marketing about how Macs are so much better for gaming or some rubbish like that.

I'm really looking forward to Steam on Mac. At the moment i have to use bootcamp with XP. It's not that bad but i'd rather reclaim the 50Gb i've set aside for windows and just have TF2 run natively.

RoosterTeeth's take on this. [http://roosterteeth.com/comics/strip.php?id=1613]

I have to agree with them, but Steam4Mac doesn't really bother me (PC/360 owner).

Maybe Mac gaming will take off, and then they'll have pirates and invasive DRM software to fuck the whole thing up. Still...there will be a brief golden age of Mac gaming.

Normally I don't think about touching games for any type of computer and just stick to consoles. But I was bought L4D and I really want to try it. I only have a MacBook though, how do I get it to work?

I'm a Mac user, and I really don't think there's much of a base for Mac gaming. I wouldn't be surprised to see it grow, due to the hardware universality of Macs, but it will take time.

Personally, it barely makes a difference in my opinion on the mac. The only reason the impression that gaming on the mac is a joke is because it rarely even receives any games. The fact that valve is brining their games over is cool, but it shouldn't make a difference like macrumors was implying with the phrase "This is a major victory for apple and macintosh users," when they still don't even have 10% of the catalogue of games that the PC has.

Still cool, though. I'm glad my mac bros can enjoy some of the best games ever.

Do people care about Mac? :p Is Mac a good OS? If so, what are its qualities in comparison to Windows.
I personally love Macs. The operating system (Snow Leopard right now) is very responsive, much more so than Windows. There are a variety of smaller things that I enjoy about it: nice interface, quick loads, and there's even a very accurate voice recognition system. The main donwsides are 1: There are fewer applications (but still some pretty good ones) and 2: Games can't run for crap. But since Valve can make a game like Portal, I trust that they will be able to make games that run on Macs.

As a proud Mac owner, I can honestly say that I'm really not that fussed about Steam coming to Mac. I didn't buy my macbook to game, there's really not that many games that aren't on a console that I want to play.
That said, I think I'll probably download Steam anyways, just in case.

Bugger, games are pretty what I'm all about =( But the voice recognition part sounds pretty good.

I think it's great to bridge the gap between the two systems. One of the main reasons i've never invested in a mac for my creative work is the lack of games supported.

I use PCs and consoles, but I think it's cool that Macs finally have Steam. I say the more people gaming, the better.

I think this is gonna make steam all of like 100 bucks as there are probably only around 15 gamers that play on Macs.

I think it's big news not so much because Valve is bringing some of their games to Mac, but because with Steam now on Macs it'll give publishers etc. a very visible platform to sell their games to Mac users rather then the games being lost amidst the PC games on shelves where they never will be seen if even looked for.

It' more that it shows a future for gaming possibilities for Mac rather then the not so bright light that currently shines on it.

I will say it's a slap to the face to all PS3 owners....-_-

But since I'm mostly a PC gamer I guess I don't care.
