Poll: Do people even know who created Tom & Jerry anymore?

All I knew about it was it was an MGM cartoon, and I always hated it when it was on instead of the highly superior Looney Toons -- or heck, Droopy Dog, which like Tom and Jerry, was an MGM property, but unlike Tom and Jerry, had more good cartoons than lame ones. Although maybe I just see it as lame because so much of the original humor would be seen as racist today, so most of the jokes have been systematically cut out or altered to something silly but not funny over the years. Either way, I had no idea the people behind Hanna-Barbera studios were behind Tom and Jerry.

If there are names carved in my head for watching tv as a kid are hanna-barbera and metro-goldwyn-mayer.

Take a breath... collect yourself... and then go do something less mentally damaging than getting worked up over soething so petty as someone misquoting... Not everyone cares about the intricacies of classic cartoons... I'm sorry, but they don't... Just learn to accept it! I dont expect everone in the world to know the difference between Roll, Pitch and Yaw, or to know the difference between a Tornado GR4 and a Tornado F3! If someone gets gets them wrong, I just laugh to myself, and reaffirm my geek status in my own head!

The period directly after Chuck Jones took over was the END of the good Tom and Jerry shows. Even Chuck Jones was pushing it, with his new take on the characters, and his daring new, very art deco style, yet it was notably worse than the previous series. Tom and Jerry pre 60's was probably up there among the best cartoons ever made, it was timelessly funny, magnificently written, lovingly simple, charming, wonderfully and shamelessly violent, and had brilliant music.

I remember watching the modern Tom and Jerry shows, must of came out some time in the 00's. It was complete utter shit, even the children watching it knew how shit it was. I was disgusted with everything in it. The fucking voices, why have voices!? The animation techniques, why change it!? The music, don't even get me started... The new characters? What the fuck are you trying to do!? And each episode had a plot with a moral at the end, telling you to be good, share, don't be violent, make friends, not enemies... fuck that... If you want to preach about that sort of thing, don't use Tom and Jerry as a bloody vessel! They don't need it! There is no equal to the magnificence of the old Tom and Jerry.

Sadly, because of political correctness, and the 'protecting our youth whether we like it or not and if you don't comply we will call you racist, sexist and a freedom hating hippie act', no show will rise to take up Tom and Jerry's mantle... I can say that with complete honesty...

That's the kind of guts-wrecking rage I feel whenever I think of the 1994 "Tom & Jerry" movie... as a child, that was the very first animated movie that pissed me off to no end. Good times.

Oh god... I totally forgot about the monstrosities that are the movies... Why... Why Hollywood, why...

If I could've voted Walt Disney I would have, I never watched the credits so... I never really got Tom and Jerry, my cousin loved them, I always thought of them as only a little better than those silent black and white films they used to make. The absolute best cartoon ever was called The Catscratch.Spleeeeeee!

Seriously, those cartoons were old before most of the people on this site were even born.

the original tom and jerrys to this day are still fantastic viewing, what i love the most about them is they STILL to this day play them on kids tv networks (mostly uncut) they include
racisim, smoking, causing severe pain to others for fun
the new tom and jerrys will not even dare do this because of complaints..

but yet they still play the originals? confuses me.

I don't see why racism is something you want to see more in cartoons.

I couldn't tell you off the top of my head, I can now though. Honestly it's not an issue I'm much bother about though since the characters have ceased to be relevant for some time. They've become static nostalgia property and thus are on the chopping block unless Hanna Barbera does something with them.

That would be difficult since Hanna-Barbera was absorbed by Warner Bros. in the early 90's... you've seen how "Brilliantly" they handled all of Hanna-Barbera's classic franchises so far.

Obviously that shows how involved I have been with recent developments from these IPs. Like I said though, if nothing comes from the property people who know the characters will move on and they'll fade into obscurity like all popular culture icons do eventually.

What I meant was that even if kids shows are much softer now, why should all content that used to be prevalent back then should be back? Sure, it's not going to hurt kids to see people smoking. But, that doesn't mean they should see it more either. (That's just an example. I do not hate smokers). Also racism doesn't add anything to a slapstick comedy. Especially one that doesn't have a plot beyond "cat chases mouse".
