Dude uncool man. Unless of course your talking about everything made after the 3rd season in which I totally agree.Thaius said:Spongebob is the perfect example; stupid, pointless, idiotic.
OP: Both have the good and the bad.

Hey, you're the guy I convinced to try some a few months back! But apparently you haven't...FallenJellyDoughnut said:YOU TAKE THAT BACK! SPONGEBOB IS THE SINGLE GREATEST THING EVER TO EXIST IN THE UNIVERSE!Thaius said:I prefer anime for the most part. My favorite show is Avatar: The Last Airbender, which is fully and completely American; however, my country is plagued with an ignorant and just plain stupid idea that cartoons are for kids, which is both a cause an effect of most western cartoons. Spongebob is the perfect example; stupid, pointless, idiotic. It exemplifies what America thinks animation is for. Japan, on the other hand, understands the potential of animation as a serious storytelling medium. Nothing has made me cry like Clannad did, and very few things have blown my intellectual side away like Death Note.
So in short, I find that Japan is more capable of making good animation, because America is ignorant and stupid in their approach to animation.
OT: I don't watch enough anime (ie. any) to be able to have much of an opinion so I guess I'll just go with western.
Well the first little while at least had originality and creativity going for it, but it very quickly lost that and fell into a formulaic waste of existence. Very, very quickly. But point being, Spongebob has no meaning, even back when it was entertaining. Shows like Full Metal Alchemist or Death Note, on the other hand, are rife with depth, presenting interesting characters, epic stories, and plenty of philosophical and ethical subjects. That's something little American animation can claim, let alone Spongebob.mandrilltiger said:Dude uncool man. Well Full Metal Alchemist is awesome but, Spongebob had meaning just not to adults. Take the "Pizza Delivery" Episode even though Squidward demonstrates hating Spongebob the entire episode at the end he stands up for him. Give me any episode prior to the 3rd season and there's a meaning there.Thaius said:Well the first little while at least had originality and creativity going for it, but it very quickly lost that and fell into a formulaic waste of existence.
