I use the assault rifle, though mostly because it's accurate enough (especially when crouched (learn to crouch, it's one of the most effective motions in the game)) and can be burst fired to conserve ammo, but can also be opened up to full auto in emergency situations.

This only holds true if someone else picks up a shotgun. If no one does, I do and then run point, taking down Witches as soon as I see them.

To complement my mid-range focus, I usually pick up a melee weapon, generally a guitar or crowbar (though if I'm Rochelle, I pick up the frying pan, just to get the jokes in). I'm good enough that, unless the AI takes a severe dislike to me (I've gotten drowned in special and uncommon infected too many times to count), I'll survive with minimal damage, allowing me to take the fight straight to the Tank later in the match.

I also reserve my Health Kit until a) I'm black and white or b) I can replace it immediately.

Why yes, I do overthink this game!

i dont use the hunting rifle, but i will always use the sniper rifle, and if i can get a lasersight on there, i have 30 rounds of rapid fire and completely accurate, death.

other than that, i'm more of a melee kind of guy.

yes, the rifles suck. in a slow apocalypse, they'd be insanely useful, but in the fast apocalypse, their practically worthless.
Because a firearm that is more accurate yet has a slower rate of fire is obviously inferior for a variety of reasons.
Cough.

<spoiler= Somewhat of a rage moment involving firearms>I swear to god, it is not the fucking firearm that is used, it is the individual that uses it.

Some people do this thing called "quick firing" with their bolt-actions, in which they can quickly utilize the bolt, pull the trigger, then do it again. I know, it's crazy right?
So crazy that the British did it with their bolt-actions in WWI and called it "The Mad Minute".

Some people can make their rifles that have a maximum range of 100 yards hit a target that is 600 yards away from them, because they've used the rifle for so long they're capable of pushing its limits to the max.

Gah, and no one tell me about bolt-actions not having a high capacity. I remember there being a bolt-action rifle that took AK magazines, so you'd have a bolt-action with 60 shots.

I personally rather liked all the firearms in Left 4 Dead, and Left 4 Dead 2. Anyone who says a weapon sucks is obviously an idiot since they fail to use that weapon in the way that it should be used (close range for shotguns, crowd control for assault rifles and such, taking down the Specials with the sniper rifles before they've any time to do damage, etc.) or they're just the type of people that I want to personally track down and shove my fist down their throat while screaming something in German. You know, trolls.
