Firstly that poll, reminded me of the classic 'Brass Eye' pedo episode where 'a survey stated, that, if a child is any person under the age of 35, up to 85% of the UK have commited paedophilia'
Also, Charlie Brooker made a good point on the 10 o clock live show, everyone who's essentially been mass bullying a 13 year old in a group of thousands, 'well done, when you're flipping burgers at work tomorrow, remember that your hate made her famous, got her on TV and she's now a star and you're still nothing.' He took the piss out of the song and the void of any talent, but he drew a line at personal death threats. He's probably right too, without the hate, it'd have been seen by maybe 50 people she vaguely knew and faded away a week later.
Having said that, it does seem easier to get attention by being awful than being good, you only need to look at advertising, in the UK, the ads that stick in the mind are stuff like Cillit Bang, the DFS 'singing' ads, 'webuyanycar... dot com', etc.
Then look at the talent shows from Cowell and his type, there's hundreds of people who can sing well, in the end, it's the nutters who make it interesting.
Look at the bully who got owned by the 'zangief kid', I don't think he is getting the abuse that thingy Black is getting, and he's certainly getting more than he earned.
