Read the whole thing and try not to repeat everything that's been said...

I read up to the 3rd page usually, unless its a really interesting topic(I think I read every single post in the 'funniest thing that happened in school' thread a month or two ago) If its a thread with lots. I always read the OP and at least a few replys if I bothered to actually enter the thread, which I don't always do.

My replys are almost always pretty long, so I like to have the decency to read other people replys so they might do so to my own, whether they qoute me or not, or if I do the same.

I pretty much always read the OP, but it seems a lot of people just read the title and go in and post. I will admit, I have been guilty of just skimming to OP because I had specific thoughts that I wanted to get down before I forgot them, and then in my haste I seem to forget to go back and make sure I'm posting about what the topic is actually about.

But plenty of times I've made topics where I put in big bold letters for everyone to see saying "Do not mention this! This isn't what the thread is about!" and then someone immediately mentions it and they're being completely serious. If I can find the thread I'm thinking, I'll edit it into this post.

EDIT: Here we go.

http://www.escapistmagazine.com/forums/read/9.197630-Left-4-Dead-3-Ideas#6406103

I put it in bold, italicized, and underlined it, wrote an entire paragraph explaining why I didn't want people to mention it and someone still goes and mentions it.

Sometimes I do, sometimes I don't.

If the topic itself is very straight forward, I typically will only read a bit.

Like this one, I only noticed it wasn't about reading books until I saw one of the posts before me.
well atleast youre honest about it

some days i think half the posts i make are "that is not what the OP meant guys" and half the people here (paraphrasing) dont read a post with more than 1 paragraph anyway

donkey-scrotum hamburger juice ! see, noone reads this, in the end its just skimming over stuff, posting what has already been posted, for no reason what so ever adding nothing to ... im ranting, ill stop :( (ps: this was for everyone not specificly the guy i quoted)

Yes I read the entire OP and a couple of the first replies (2-10 depending on length and interest).

I read the whole OP and maybe some or most of the posts on the first pages, to see if I'm about to say the same thing as a few other people have.

I read most of the first page minimum. And I usually follow whatever set-up the OP has. If I don't read the OP, it's because I just back out of the page from lack of interest.
Yup, this. I'll see if there is anything of value I can add, but if it's several pages deep I may just post my two cents with the qualifier that I only read the first page, at most second if there are only two.

Ya, I can read. Why do you ask?

OT: I've noticed this problem a few times. Personally, I do tend to skim over the OP if it's too long, but I've never made any huge mistakes.

As for copying other people, I tend to only post on the first page anymore.

It depends a whole lot on how many pages of replies there are either way i tend to generally read first 3 pages then maybe the 9th 15th 21st just to see if the conversation is even the same before posting.

I remember that human = ape page that I spent all my time between grading papers saying the same thing over and over to random people who didn't bother to read even the first 3 replies.

I always read the whole OP, and if the topic interests me, or I want to check nobody's already posted what I was going to say, I read the rest of the thread.

I always read the whole thread if I made it. Because I Care What You Guys Think!

This. And as long as the request is at least a little reasonable, I'll follow it.

Not, really, I've never been big on reading. There are a couple books I like, but I don't read regularly.

/irony

I usually read the OP, first page, and last page to see where the conversations at and to make sure I don't repeat others.

Well I was about to post about books now, so yeah I guess I sometimes forget to read the OP.

I hate it when that happens, it makes me mad actually.

I read all of the OP and if not all most of the replies before I make a post. I find it really rude not to. You can tell they're just post whores who want a huge post count.

tl;dr

I KID, I KID.

I always read the entire OP, I don't respond if I don't read it.

I occasionally jump into the poll without reading the OP, but I always read the whole post before posting myself, unless it's written as if by an idiot or starts to repeat itself.
