That is not what Freedom of speech had in mind. I am also of the mind that the other vulgar things should be banned. At least suspended/warning.

However this is what happens when you give people power. They invariably use it to be giant assholes.

So what do you call all the smack-talk, tea-bagging, spawn-camping etc. that goes on? Is that NOT an attempt to piss off others? Planning to ban all that as well?

While I'm certainly not FOR waving a swastika around, I'm definitely AGAINST banning it.

Don't tell yourself that people who do it are doing it to be historically accurate. They're being inflammatory. Whether it should be allowed or not is something to consult the Live code of conduct for. Xbox Live is not America, so your freedom of speech doesn't have to be acknowledged. Just like you couldn't post a bunch of swastikas here and expect to keep your avatar or post a bunch of racist garbage and expect to be able to post.

I'm all for freedom of speech. I don't think it should be abridged under any circumstances. But when you're using someone's service like this, you're simply not subject to it.

decent argument but far fewer people would be offended by a communist symbol than by a nazi symbol.
the communists were just not as bad as the nazis. as far as I know they even had more humane forced labor camps.

The swastika has meaning beyond that of just Nazi Germany. A quick look at wikipedia will tell you that.

Every sensible person knows the heavy load a swastika carries.

I'm... well... I cnat exaclty say I'm for it. I mean, I'm mostly polish/pollock, have a bit of jew in me, and know a ton of jewish people, so I have a somewhat inbedded hate for swastikas already. But i just assume its one of those things you dont need to use if you have common sense. I mean, great if you're a neo nazi, but still, there's no need for it. So i guess its nice that they are enforcing common sense.

Understanding that the symbol itself is not a bad thing, that it actually represents something good when going to its roots. I agree with the ban, because it's not being used for that. When you have a diagonal black Swastika in a white circle surrounded by a stark red, you know exactly what that symbol represents.

I'm not saying that people who use it are in fact Nazi's, that's just silly. They are doing it because they want to be edgy, or funny. It has no real effect on anything, but it's stupid and needless. To me it's comparable to the people who try to put "Penis" into their username and then once they get banned they are absolutely dumb-founded by it.
The symbol in this manner doesn't mean anything to you. Move on, find something else to be your symbol, I assure you in about two days you'll completely forget it ever even mattered.

The unfortunate thing is that anyone who made the swastika symbol is doing it because of the Nazi's, not the Hindu's. It's known that it's the Hindu sign for peace and the Nazi's took it and changed it so now, 99% of people see it as the Nazi hate symbol.

Little kids who think they're cool by putting the swastika there are doing it because of Nazism, not Hinduism.

I disagree with the ban. Surely, the developers had to have known someone would do it the second the made it possible, because when people can be anonymous, often times they act as offensively as possible. I wish I could agree with this ban though. God forbid people behave like adults.

X-Box Live is full of dicks though, as many emblems point out. How many dick emblems have killed you guys today? My buddies got 27 already.

As with anything it's all about the context. A friend of mine has a swastika but it has the circle around it and the line through it. Like you see on no smoking warning sign. (Replace the cigarette with a swastika and you get the gist.) He also has the words "STOP NAZI" on the top and bottom respectively

They saying he should be banned for showing a blatant opposition to the swastika and all it's negative connotations?

Fair enough banning people who are being idiots but banning the swastika full stop is pretty damn stupid.
