At the end of the day, if push comes to shove, those people in the military will go to war. In doing so, they will suffer, and they will die for me should the need arise. And I respect them for that.

I guess the answer is yes? For the most part I respect people in the military unless they give me a reason otherwise but at the same time I don't automatically respect the job they're doing...

I guess the answer is that I respect them for doing a rough job that someone has got to do, but I don't necessarily always respect what that job entails.

Keep in mind this applies purely to The Canadian Military, I have NO idea what to make of American Soldiers.

I give soldiers the same amount of respect i give anyone when I first meet them. After that it depends on who they are as a person how much respect i give them.

automatically judging people solely on their profession is pretty narrow-minded IMO. it doesn't matter whether the judgment is good or bad, if you are judging a person on one aspect of their life you are being closeminded.

I would say I respect the profession more (at least the ideals of the profession, protection of country and people and all that) than other professions, but not the persons in that profession.

Not saying all military are the same. Respect is earned by proving ones self, just because you sign up it doesn't mean you're deserving.

Not really.

I'm in the military and know for a fact that there are plenty of jackasses in it.

For me, I only believe soldiers deserve more respect than others when they go beyond their programming. That is to say when they stop taking lives and begin to save them. This is why I have huge amounts of respect for medic cores and the Red cross.
