I don't think I believe in it, but it's made habits out of itself. Like, if I spill salt I take a pinch and throw it over my shoulder. I try not to step on manholes and there are certain signs of bad luck I just can't ignore.
Well having seen people who refuse to do things like walk under ladders and who avoid black cats, yes I believe in it as a phenomenon of the human mind.
I'm not superstitious but I think superstition in and of itself is a remnant of times when science was alot less advanced or practically non-existant.
I'm not superstitious so I don't believe any of it will actually have an effect. Though I still throw salt over my shoulder if I spill it and I 'read' magpies (going by that rhyme 'One for sorrow, Two for joy...') but that's more to do with thinking they were cool little stories and just having it become habit than actually fearing any divine consequences.
