Well, I don't know the literal name of the rule, but basically it states, when fighting, you never hit below the other person's waistline.

So heres a scenario:

You were out at some bar late at night. There was a misunderstanding with the really big guy next to you, next thing you know, you're out in the parking lot fighting. Not only is this guy huge, but he really knows how to fight and is much better than you. He winds up to deal a blow that you just know would knock you out instantly and there is no way for you to dodge it. He made a mistake however, and leaves his groin area wide open. If you kick him there, he won't land the blow, and you would have basically won. Do you go for the opportunity?

I, personally, would. Being knocked out is not very fun.

Edit: Added a few more options to the poll
Edit2: I realize that a kick in the balls is not the "I win" button. We'll assume that it IS an "I win" button for the scenario.

I don't like the idea of twitching on the ground in a pool of my own piss. So yeah, I'd go for it.

Well, I don't get into fights, but in the circumstance you describe, I would say anything is fair game. It's all about self-preservation, and it's not like it would be a fair fight anyway.

Hit it hard and fast. Then add a few kicks as he crawls on the ground before running away like a little *****.

It's funny because it's called 'below the belt' when really it's 'don't hit someone in their joeys' because hip, shin, all that is still fair game
Anyway. Yeah in a scuffle I won't hit someone in the fellas mostly because there's a chance it won't do anything but make them really angry. Another reason is that I actually know how to fight and there are far more effective ways to stop your opponent.

edit: omg i got their and there mixed up. Shame on me.

I've really only heard the "below the belt" rule for fighting sport matches like boxing. When some guy is about to stomp you into the street, you do whatever's necessary to prevent that from happening.

Doesn't the rule only apply to properly sanctioned fights(boxing and the like). In a street fight anything is fair game and if kicking some dude in the balls stops me getting my ass kicked then I'll have no problem doing it(more than once if necessary)

As someone who has boxed and wrestled his whole life let me make this painstakingly clear for you.

If someone is bigger than you AND knows how to fight no dirty tricks short of having a weapon is going to let you win. With enough adrenaline pumping through your system you'd be surprised how easy it is to shrug off a groin kick.

DON'T ASSUME A GROIN HIT IS A TRICK UP YOUR SLEEVE YOU CAN USE TO SAVE YOURSELF YOU'LL END UP IN THE BLOODY HOSPITAL! I know all caps is insufferable, but I've seriously had friends get concussions from assuming they could handle people they clearly couldn't. I'm in great shape and know how to fight, but I still don't pick on people who have 30 pounds on me.

I don't pick fights and try to avoid them, so if I do get in a fight my goal is to take my attacker(s) down as fast as possible by any means possible. So yeah, I'll kick below the belt, and then give a few hard kicks afterwards to be sure they're not getting up and knifing me in the back.

theres nothing unfair about it, so its his fault for not defending against it.

additionally, is he just big, or is he bigger than me specifically..? because were not all small here :/ either way, same rule.

Just in a "not so serious" bar brawl. Or something: No way. Do not unto other... you know. It is one of the big RULES.

As revenge, in life-or-death situations or against a mugger or something: Oh YES.

There are no rules in a real fight. Bite scratch kick and punch. Whatever it takes to win.

Organized fights like Boxing have rules that should be followed.

I'd kick anyone in the balls, anytime, if it meant I could get away safely. Although I can't really see myself getting into a fight unless I was in some kind of danger of being mugged or raped, and in that kind of a situation I would most definitely fight dirty.

Please read my post above. If someone engages you in a street fight assume they are armed and just run. I've been "accidentally" hit in the balls in tons of sanctioned fights and it normally only pisses me off. There was one time when someone got a clean hit on me (he was 150 pounds 5% body fat and actually had proper kneeing form so probably harder than you would ever kick) and I only had to kneel down for 15 seconds before I could fight again.

It's a very well protected part of the body so even if you get a clean hit and not a glancing blow. They are gonna beat the holy fuck out of you after you try.

If your in a serious situation where for some reason you couldn't run or find a weapon I would try to gouge their eyes out. If the groin was seriously a weak point than we would've evolved a way to protect it.

It would really depend on what the fight was caused by, and how he was fighting himself. However if this guy is much bigger than me, better at fighting than me and fighting fair so far, then I really wouldn't want to cause him to stop fighting fair.

If he wasn't fighting fair already, or if beating him was REALLY important, then yes I probably would take any edge I could get.

Depending on how he feels about the "below the belt" rule, taking the shot may earn me an enemy for life. An enemy who is huge and a much better fighter than I am. That doesn't sound good.

So, assuming I was fighting rationally, I wouldn't do it. I'd take my lumps tonight and try to communicate better in the future, to avoid misunderstandings.
