I almost exclusively buy new games. If a game isn't worth the cost of new, it is probably not worth however many hours and hours of my life it is supposed to enrich. And I have spent several hours in CS classes, its hard work. And basically some game developers work for minimum wage effectively during crunch time (IE they could put in the number of hours and get the same salary at the local neighborhood Mac Donald's).

I have waited to buy games before, just because I was busy when they were released or some such. Perfect example is I recently purchased Darksiders new in box for a grand sum of 20 bucks. I played it and really I think it was an awesome game, sure its a ripoff of Zelda + God of War + a smidge of portal for fun, but you know what? When you rip off 3 amazing games, if you do it with any skill, it is a fun game, and at that point I consider it just a great idea.

It's no different than carmakers the way I see it. I don't see Toyota complaining about used car dealers sapping money they could be making.
Look, I really don't want to be a jerk, but do I HAVE to refute this argument in every thread?

That doesn't apply here because games, the individual discs, are not objects with individual worth. The disc, by now, is just a token representing your license to the game, much like how on the PC, the game's information is worthless in the face of having a CD key. The actual plastic circle that holds all the information is worthless; they're a dime a dozen at Staples.

Certainly. Before I moved to university, most of the 360 games I played on belonged to my dad, so it wasn't like I could take them with me. So I did what any sensible kid on a limited budget would do - buy preowned as much as possible. Currently I have around fifteen games (?) and probably the only new one is the copy of Black Ops my girlfriend got me for Christmas.

Of course I buy used. I picked up Battlefield 2 for $5 a couple of weeks ago, and I couldn't be happier with my purchase. As far as I'm concerned, there's not a game on the planet that's worth $60. If I can't find it for $20 or less, I don't buy it. That means I buy a lot of stuff used, and a lot of games on sale. If the devs don't like it, they can go cry some moar, because as much right as they have to set the asking price, I have the right to decide what I'm willing to pay.

Hellllll no. Unless it's absolutely unavoidable, in which case I go through private sellers. No chance I'm ever giving money to a store like GameStop ever again.

No, occasionally I'll wait for a title I'm more dubious of to decrease in price before picking it up on steam or newegg, but otherwise if I'm going to get it I preorder it or get it with in the first two to three weeks.

I like collecting older games, and it's almost impossible to find new copies of them. Used is the only path I can take, and I'm generally lucky in finding games that are "like new" or very good condition.

I don't because it's only a 5 dollar discount, there is a good possibility for getting a disc that's scratched to hell, a lot of games now have a one time use code that would normally cost $10 and I like supporting the developer (usually).

Since I collect older games it would be pretty hard to do if didn't buy used games.

Personally I don't care how old the game is. Devs and publishers are not my special friends. I am not going to go out of my way to appease them. They need to go oug of there way to appease me, the customer. Used or new however I find it at a decent price.
Beautifully said.

We are part of one of the few genres that feel it's ok to be walked on by the people in charge of the product. So many people get it into their heads that developers (and I'm not talking indie devs) will go to bed on a sheet of cardboard, hungry and on the street if you don't support them by buying brand new, not realizing the only thing it's hurting is maybe their bonuses if a games sells X number of copies since they are working under a contract. Well, that is unless of course (the horse is the famous Mr. Ed, sorry...) said developers work on a game that isn't the hipster flavor of the month and too mainstream (anytime Halo or COD comes out) in which case they don't matter since they aren't "artists".

Buy whatever is the best deal for you. The companies already have their money since they are paid when, say Gamestop, orders and pays for 100,000 copies of Action Shooter Girls in Bikinis 3 and 100% of the money you pay for a new copy goes to Gamestop anyway. (How do you "Buying used gives all the money to Gamestop and not to the developers, only buy new games!" folks feel about that? lol)

Yes I do buy used games, not often though. The last games I bought used I think were presents for other people, Leaf Green, and the Gears of War games. I will also buy a game used if it is older, or I am buying a game I don't know much about and don't want to spend full price on a game I may hate.

GameStop's trade in plane might only be good for them and nobody else, but buying used anywhere else is good for everyone. Selling your games puts more spending money in the pockets of those that are going to spend it on more games, and expands the base of people exposed to your games. that generates more future customers. Every media aside from books has complained of used sales but they are all still here movies especially having enjoyed repeat sales by moving to newer media. Copyright laws came from publisher complaints back in olden times, - so that is nothing new either.

Yes, but generally only if they are old and hard to find new anymore. I'm not going to scour the Earth for a game that I didn't get around to five years ago when I can hit the local resale shop and pick up a copy with no hassle.

If it is still on major retailer shelves though I tend to buy new - and of course if I game is just coming out or something then obviously new or pre-order or whatever get me my fix quickest.

Did you stop and think you're not getting support for your argument because you're wrong?

OT: Yes because gaming is an expensive hobby, and I enjoy collecting games.

As I only have an original xbox, I have to. On PC though, I just use Steam. Oh, the convenience, I don't have to talk to people!

Almost my entire collection is used, new games are way to expensive. I have trouble buying a game that cost more than $20, and most of the time I'm scavenging the PS2 bins. If for some odd reason I'm buying a current gen game I will buy it new since you don't save that much money used and I can support the devs.
