I don't watch a lot of movies and I don't really know actors' names very well, so I generally use the character's name.

Depends on the name of a character. I call the main character in inception Leanardo Dicapprio because the charatcer's name is so dumb. Domm Cobb just sounds stupid to me... But usually I call the characters by their name and the actors the characters name to. I still call Johhn depp Jack sparrow.

I can never remember the names of any of the characters in Inception except for their targets and the Japanese guy (notice that I skirted around actually mentioning their names). So if I know the name of the actor, I just refer to them as that.

It would depend on a couple of factors. Firstly, it depends on the context in which I'm speaking. If I'm just talking about the film to people (especially if they haven't seen the film), I'll probably go by the actor's name. If I'm writing a review, I'll usually go by the character unless the actors seems to just be playing themselves or I'm being cynical regarding the amount of character development in the film.

I suck at memorizing names (even the actors that I do admire), so I just remember their character's names.

I only take the time to memorize characters becuase THAT's who I care for. The actor may portray the character, but it's still the character I care for and not the actor.

Sad to say that everyone at work is always talking about the 'who' in whatever latest movie and when they ask me about a character and they use actors names, I have to ask for the character and they can't give me a name or even description....

Sometimes I call characters by the actor's best/most popular character. So Jeff Bridges is always the Dude.

I usually do if I'm summarizing the plot for someone.

Or If it's one of those actors that plays the same character in every movie. Like Ryan Reynolds

Depends on the actor, if it's one I'm familiar with then yeah, I usually do unless the character is something notable enough to stand out to me more.

Example:
Iron Man is Iron Man/Tony Stark to me, not Robert Downy Jr.

Everyone Christian Bale has ever played, he's still Christian Bale.

Vin Diesal is always Vin Diesal, with the exception of Riddick.

Matt Damon is always Matt Damon, Jessica Alba is always Jessica Alba,

And stopping now as there's no point in my randomly picking names out of my memory and expanding a meaningless list...

Sometimes.
Jason Statham is always Jason Statham.
Vin Diesel is Vin Diesel.
The Rock is always the Rock
But Edge is always "Big Angry Guy".

Other times it's by their most well-known character.
Nathan Fillion is always Captain Mal.
Alan Tudyk is Wash.
Jeff Bridges id The Dude
And the guy that played Angel whose name I can't remember is Angel, even when he's pretending to be an FBI agent on Bones.

Depends on the ability of my remembering the character's name. I remember say, Walt White because well, Walt White. He's a memorable character.

Depends. In movies I generally go by the actors name because character names are usually said once or twice simply to give them a name. Sometimes not even that. But in TV series, the actor becomes almost synonymous with the character name. I will always call Samuel Jackson his name, but Amanda Tapping will always be known as Samantha Carter....or Helen Magnus.

it entirely depends on how memorable the character is. if its not a memorable character ill refer to them by the actors name assuming I know it. if I dont know either, I just refer to them as "that douchebag" and people know who I mean. sometimes ill refer to a character as the character the actor played in another movie.

The guy who did the voice of Atton Rand will always be Atton to me. That guy will never play or voice another character even remotely as cool. I can picture the guys face, and I remember him from Boiler Room, but damned if I remember his name.
