I bring this up because Vanquish is coming out tomorrow and has a short campaign and people are saying the game has infinite replay value because of online leaderboards. I'm going to get the game tomorrow because of this killer deal at Kmart [http://www.mykmart.com/mykmart_blog/Vanquish-launch-offer] so I'll get Vanquish and Castlevania for $90 and a $20 coupon off my next purchase.
Anyways, to the topic at hand. I don't really care about online leaderboards because I like playing as many games as I can. I just don't have the time to get good enough to compete for the top spots because there are always those people that just put in a ridiculous amount of time into the game and get ridiculous high scores that I can never touch unless I dedicated way too much time to the game, which would be at the cost of not being able to experience a bunch of other games. If I really get into a game, I'll play through a few times and on the highest difficulty, but I never even consider trying to get a top spot on the game's leaderboards. I got really good at playing Bayonetta (I beat it without that much trouble on Non-Stop Infinite Climax) but I never even thought about looking at other people's high scores because I know that certain people know every inch of every level and know every little trick to maximize their score. To me, online leaderboards only matter to like 0.01% of gamers because so few people actually dedicate the time required to compete worldwide.
