Personally i do not. If the game is fun i could care less that the gun im using shoots fluffy rabbits and explode on contact. But as of you guys here, do you care about realism in the games you play?

That would depend entirely on the game being played. It annoys the hell out of me when a game is advertised or presented as "realistic" but puts completely insane things into the game.

On the other, nothin realistic about mario and it's a fun game.

I don't really care much about the game itself being real but the mechanics/physics should be somewhat real. Like FPS, I want some recoil feel, if I don't let go of trigger, I should be shooting the sky at some point. Infamous, Cole should have limitations based on electricity that effects him. You know, things like that.

Realism sets lame restrctions on developers.

I like my games to be weird bordering on retarded, that have its own set of rules and standards that require YOU to adjust to IT.

I don't mind, if a game isn't realistic I don't care, if it is I won't care. As long as the game is fun. For example, I like Operation Flashpoint which is realistic, as well as Just Cause 2 which is completely over the top, so it doesn't really factor into my buying choice.

I like being able to carry an entire armory in my pocket, leads to creative tendencies methinks.
While realistic FPS are great, I like to be able to go to something like Timesplitters after, and say screw realism.

Past a certain point realism pretty consistently means "not as fun".

That's not to say lots of realism is always bad, but only because games don't always have to be entirely about fun, sometimes you'll use the realism for immersion, or trade in "fun" for "rewarding".

It really just depends on the game. I like GRAW, but I also like Halo. I do not really have preference for one or the other.

It depends on the game. I'm tired of "realistic FPS" games getting touted as awesome and yet you can still take several dozen bullet to the head and not die, dying has no consequence, and run-and-gun is still seen as a viable and intelligent tactic.

On the other hand; realism can be toned down a bit when you add in crazy shit like magic. Sometimes it's perfectly okay to not be 100% hard-core realism in a game, but not when you call your game "realistic".

I only like realism in shooters with a proper cover system.

I like it in Vegas and Vegas 2. And hate it in Bad Company.

GRAW...just had really awkward controls. With better controls, I'd have liked it.

I even liked it in GTA 4 and Mafia 2. Then again, the amazing soundtrack really took all my driving cares away.

Basically, give me a proper cover system, and I like it. Give me one where I have to physically stand behind the object, without a snap-to cover system, and fuck it.

If you ever put realism in my RPGs, I will stab you, though.

I don't play games for realism. I play them to detach myself temporarily from my dull real life. It's part of the reason that I prefer Team Fortress 2 over Call of Duty.

If you're looking for realism, go outside.
Games are to escape that.
Are you aware of the many games that fall under the "simulation" genre? Or how much time goes into making realistic physics for driving games?

I can't "go outside" to my racetrack whenever I want.

Push. Some games need it some don't. If I ever see a gritty dark Ratchet and Clank game I will be perturbed. I also want Socom to look real the day JRPG characters are suiting up to for a Rainbow 6 op we as a society will loose.
Not the exact same thing but...

Time to move out???
