Not at all. Take Arma II for example. Sure, it's fun for a little while, but the most fun was doing totally unrealistic things, like sticking eight M1A2 Abrams tanks to a C130, then setting helicopters armed with T80s on it.

M&B and Stalker are the closest I'll get to realism. One is a game where Vikings fight Mongols, and the other is a Ukranian RPG/FPS with invisible mutants.

This is exactly the same as asking "do you prefer FPS or RPG"? Some games benefit from it, some don't.

Depends on the scenario of course, but overally, i'm strongly anti-realism. Reasons:

- Many older games gave you original fantasy worlds to act in. It was as if you entered a different world, that works by its own rules. I miss that aspect of videogames.

- Frequently nowadays, realism takes priority over gamedesign. With this i mean that often things get done the way they are done, not because it is benefical to the GAME, but simply because its realistic. I do not agree with this, unless one is trying to create a real-life simulation.

Only if the game is trying to sell itself as such.

For games like Just Cause 2 or Dead Rising 2, I'm not about to bring my realism hat.

I enjoy surrealism more, myself, but if I get a good creative problem-solving fix out of a game it doesn't matter to me. Just a matter of mood, really.

Depends on the game.

Some do realism well. Some don't. Both can potentially be fun or crap.

You don't want realism in a game, you want realism in a simulator. What people want is believability, because trust me, there's a HUGE difference there. Aiming for perfect realism is a sure way to lose entertainment value, save a very small demographic of people interested in the gimmick.

I care about well made games. Realism can be good or bad, depending on whether its use is appropriate and well implemented or just a buzz word to put on the back of a box.

If you were to demand absolute realism in a game, then I'm pretty sure you wouldn't be left with any games to play. An absolutely realistic game would involve dying or being rushed off to a medic after being shot once (twice if you are lucky).

I don't think there's any realism in games

CoD for example, if that were realistic and you got shot, you wouldn't magically get better in 10 seconds, if anything you would start to bleed out losing "health" and your character would become less useful because the pain would prohibit certain actions

That was my whole problem with Modern Warfare 2. It was like they made everything about the guns and environments as realistic as possible, then made all the characters superheros.

OT: I think games should either go all the way realistic, or all the way cartoony, not mixing uber-realistic visuals with ridiculous cartoony gameplay.

The game just has to fulfill its goal. If devs are going for realistic, then it better be pretty damn real. If they're going for something way out there, I better be saying "what the fuck" every ten seconds.

It did slightly irk me that Drake in Uncharted somehow had a healing factor. I remember thinking "Oh yeah, that's believable." But then the giant, blue, monkey people appeared and I no longer complained.

There are different aspects of realism I like. For eg: If I am versing humans, 1-2 shots SHOULD warrant an instant kill. If I'm versing a big ass grissly beast monster, it should not matter that much to me.

That's about the only realism I like. Damage levels. Everything else is meh. I like Doom.

If realism is the style they are going for, and it's done well, I like realism. I will take good realistic over bad unrealistic, and good unrealistic over bad realistic. If I played a bunch of unrealistic games, I would probably want to try games that are slightly more realistic, and vice versa. Realism isn't good or bad in the same way Blue isn't good or bad. Its just another color on the palette.

Very simple way to answer this question is the game I am supposed to be playing realistic, surreal or bat shit insane. If the former yes I do care if the median then a little if the latter then no.

realism? ha! I like future style games like starcraft and medieval style games like oblivion. Realism goes out the window.
