Mhm... More or less. I have a lot of nerd qualities in me, and just as many non-nerd qualities too. The thing that leads me to believe that I'm not a nerd is... Well, I'm not the sharpest tool in the shed n.n

Soo, I'm not quite sure if I am one or not =/. If I was one though, I would be proud of it =]

Labels are applied to all minority groups to make those who inhabit the perceived mainstream happier about their conformity.

I call these people "Sheep".

I class myself as a video game nerd - but I don't have the excessive social problems that go with that label.

My job is to learn as much as I can about computers and then tell other people about it. The fact that I get paid to read up on chipsets and ruggedized computer technology and video cards fills me with glee to a degree that my coworkers find...odd. The fact that I glee out over manga, anime, and games puts me pretty squarely in the nerd/geek demographic. I think spazz and dork would also apply. And I have no problem with that, because it's made me happy and successful.

No I consider that an archaic expression from the 80s now used only by those souls whose muscle has seemed to have digested their Grey matter.

Yes, I realized when the "popular" kids started calling me a nerd that out of a group of ten kids the school broke down into

1/10 popular kids
1/10 jocks
2/10 Idiots
6/10 Nerds

It was then that I realized that the Popular kids didn't really have that many friends. And since I was a nerd I was actually among the majority at my school. When I brought this to the attention of my nerdy peers we stopped paying attention to the popular kids en masse.

Ok before you read on its not my intention to flame you guys just my opinion !

"im a nerd and proud of it" wtf??
kinda being hipocritical... considering we flame fanboys like hell and if they would say that...
And nerdyness is nothing to be proud of ! you can like pc / dnd or RPGs ok yeah but theres other stuff besides playing games you know...
I mean i know for a fact that all of you sometimes wna be the guy who everyone knows n like !
but saying that theres nothing wrong with being an uber-nerd is just wrong!
you can like yourself fair enough but dont go on about it like you dont care because you do !
and dont sit there saying theres nothing wrong with it because there is !
I to play games and enjoy DnD but i still dont walk around talking in gamer all the time and only talk about games/comics etc theres more to it and if im 15 and figured it out alot of you older guys should to... im not saying you should play games anymore im saying going outside once in a while with non-harcore gamers is good for you ! fitting in isnt a bad thing !

*** excuse the typos im writting on an english keyboard ( on holiday ) im used to an AZERTY not a QWERTY . And dont read this and write a flame comment... this is just my opinion on the matter i intitled you to yours so you should respect mine !

So...what's your point? How is it hypocritical? Why is being a nerd nothing to be proud of?

I think your conception of an 'uber-nerd' is misconceived. I don't think it's even possible for anyone to talk 1337 in real life.

It'd be like,
"upslash-dash-upslash-one!!" (|-|1= Hi)
"Y-zero, n-one-six-six-four, five-u-nine?" (Y0, n1664, 5u9= Yo nigga, sup?)

See, doesn't work.

That post looks like a pile of matches covered in oil.

Yes! I'm damn proud of it! I do still get out and socalise though!

(Also as a little fun fact, my vote in the 'yes and proud' option was the 69th vote!)

According to my personal definition, I am a geek, not a nerd. To me, the difference is:
-A Nerd has an obsession with something fantasy or sci-fi related. I.E.: WoW, Harry Potter, Star Wars, Star Trek, DnD, anime, Halo, etc. etc. etc.

-A Geek is well acquainted with technology and logicality (physics, math, etc.). A geek may: know his way around a computer, know code, know mathematics, has the ability to assemble custom electronics, etc. etc. etc.

By this definition, I am a geek, not a nerd, and damn proud of it!

I hereby forever change the order of the "cake cliche".
Also, sensing some Jock-Hate in here. That really shocks me. There aren't really athletic types still picking on nerds are there? I hung out with jocks all through high school and it was always pretty cool.

Was always the kids who were heavy into drugs that gave me trouble, and the jocks always stayed clean so they could stay in shape.
