Nerd, Gamer, and Geek. AND damn proud of it. I flaunt it to EVERYONE. Always have and always will. Even before it was cool to play video games in the latter 80s.

According to this, yes; I've never found being considered a nerd (or geek) offensive. It's not the only thing I am, however, and I do engage in social behavior.

So, I suppose I am a nerd.
I'm a nerd.

And I wouldn't have it any other way.

i believe i'm a geek, but not stereotypically. i'm a geek times 4,if wikipedia is to be trusted. in fourth grade i bought a world history book just to read it cover to cover. but im not stereotypical because i'm fat, have about four million friends, high, high, high, high self esteem and a temper. although,i have played every single RPG on the internet. and play tuba. so...i guess geek x4 is correct.

I would say so, but apparently some of my friends in university and the general public disagree.

Friend: You can't be a nerd!

Me: Why not?

Friend: You're black!

Me: ...

Although I do sports, so does that put me between a nerd and a 'jock'? (always sounds foreign to me, do any Americans use that term any more?)
Yes, I believe we do.
However, "asshole" also serves the same purpose as calling someone a "jock."

yes, asshole does the job pretty well. as for non-asshole jocks? uh... no,i think asshole does the job. jocks are the really good sport players, team stars and stuff, so mostly only the team star "jocks" are assholes. at least at my school.

for some reason, people would find "nerd" to be more insulting, but I however find "geek" to be worse. Probably nothing...

I suppose it would depend on what kind of nerd one is referring to since there seems to be so many types of different categories of nerds. I am a gamer, anime, eccentric nerd.

We do not refer to ourselves as 'nerds', but yes, I am one of them. Completely. And utterly. I like to call myself an 'otaku', since that's the Japanese term for it and it sounds a lot better; it may even make you sound like some kind of expert.

I even considered taking up another crusade in Project Chanology, and that's still an on-again off-again project for me. Never could stand protesting next to Scientology churches for very long. Was it the scent of asbestos, or the chanting inside? Hard to say.

i do have some nerdy qualities, but i'm too good at sport and have too many "cool" friends to be a proper nerd; i'm like a half breed, i fit in in most social sets (obviously not the really "popular" kids who everyone really hates, but then who does?).

I'm a halfling nerd I think (even that's nerdy...). I do some nerdy stuff like play a fair amount of games and RP sometimes, but I'm not a social pariah and I do my fair share of non nerdy stuff too.

Yeah.
I'm a nerd. Even though my clothes and tattoos might indicate otherwise.

I've toured Europe with my band, but instead of nailing groupies I usually spend time after shows drinking beer while talking to weirdos about rare records and sci-fi shows. Sometimes those weirdos are female.

I also spent four days at a hackers convention in Holland. We had a 100 mbit internet connection in our tent. Nothing like being drunk in a tent surfing forums and downloading MST3K episodes.

Why are you automatically labeled has a "nerd" everytime you dare to do something else than watch sports all day and act like a damn hooligan?

Labels suck, when labels are gone humanity will be at pace.
