I do both actually. Though I prefer to control my dreams, as for me, they are infinitely more entertaining in this way ^~^!
Oh yes. Wherever I start I just go from there. But darn it, my sub-conscious is not a movie!
Oh for sure ^~^! The only trouble I have sometimes is with the realization that I am in a dream, though usually I can with the right sort of dream signs >~~<!

Sometimes I only partially control the dream. For example if I'm about to do into a flaming cave when theres a normal cave next to it I'll nudge myself in the right direction but I wont directly interfere.

I often realize that I'm dreaming, and from there try to control them, yet for some reason in my dreams I can never ever throw a punch, run, or fly effectively.

I can control my dreams but I choose not to. I'd rather let it play out like a movie than take control of it like a video game.

Both, but I like them way better when I don't control them. If I accidentally start to, I just make myself wake up, and go back to sleep.
I also wake up shortly after taking control. Why do you think that is? My theory is that controlling dreams requires conscious thought. Conscious thought would increase brain activity to higher than normal levels and then your subconscious freaks out because there is too much activity and you wake up.

The few chances that I get to control my dreams I take and run with. Those are usually the only dreams I remember. I can't even remember the last dream that I had.
Well, when I do it, it's on purpose. Like, I consciously just stop the dream, open my eyes, and then close them after after a few seconds of just laying there to relax for a minute. I can control all of my dreams, but I hate when I do it.

Thanks I used this info and had a nice controlled dream about me being the ruler of a terraformed mars.

Since 90% of my dreams are lucid, I have almost full motor control over my body in them. I suppose the weirdest one was I got stabbed in the arm by a katana, the weird part was my body reacted to the pain as if I was stabbed.

Go with da flow brudda.
I lack the cognitive mental abilities to do so. But what I lack in control, my dreams are beyond complex. It's like Inception on steroids in my head when I sleep.

I'm big on lucid dreaming, they sort of hit me in phases. I've never been able to control my dreams though.

At most i can walk away from the main events in the dream and forge a different path, which changes the dream in unexpected ways, but i never choose what happens.
Everything is just like in real life apart from a few changes, like gravity tends to feel lower than usual.

Sometimes i exploit what i know about dreaming to make unexpected stuff happen, like my dream takes place in my street i'll go inside a house that i've never been in before and force my mind to fill in the blanks. Last time i went into the house opposite my own and found some weird Greek pool house.

I go with the flow, but if something goes wrong then I simply intervene.

I am almost never, ever aware when I'm dreaming - maybe once or twice that I remember? Thing is, I find them so immersive that I never think that I might be. I take on a character, and that character has fake memories, a fake personality, the lot - and any of my awake memories are utterly gone. Some dreams have felt like they've lasted for years. One in particular was about this lifetime I had with an amazing friend who I was bonded to when they were born - when I woke up (after they had died) I nearly cried. Obviously when I remember them I notice the things that should give it away - time jumps, location jumps, but they're always bridged by a whole ton of fake memories that make it seem like I did experience all that time.

I usually can't manipulate my dreams, but when I have, they've been memorable. The last time I had control of a dream was a few weeks ago, where I was able to fly. I don't know when I became aware, but when I did, I was able to control my speed and altitude. It was amazing, to say the least.

Depends, there's these certain times I know I'm dreaming and I kind of control it and make stuff happen.

Then there's others which I don't have a clue what's going on.

These days I been having these bad " THE RING " style dreams :(
I blame the Scary thread ><
I once had similar "RINGU" dreams. I remember taking control of it by creating a portal on the TV screen and one on a nearby wall. I Bible Black'd myself and...took control of the situation. It was oddly empowering and...um...interesting.
