The problem with that idea, is that most people have learned to stop themselves from doing things early in their childhood. It doesn't reflect on who they are if, when they're reduced to the mind of a small child, they act like a complete ass/idiot. The alcohol simply obliterates any learned self-restraint, good or bad, and even that part of you is in fact a part of you.
The fact they want to do stupid stuff in the first place is an indicator that they are bad people to begin with. No amount of self-restraint changes that, they just don't end up in a court room.

I don't become an asshole, or mean, or aggressive or things that could get me into a court room when I am drunk, so not everyone falls into your category of children when stripped of restraint.
How would you know? Your own perception of yourself is screwed up too.

The only way you would know that you're not an asshole when you're drunk is if the people you're with say you aren't. Maybe that's what you're riding on already.

But I'm not just talking about meanness either, people do really stupid things they wouldn't otherwise do as well. Like urinate in the hallway.

Don't tell me that somebody urinates in the hallway because deep down, they're the kind of guy that urinates in hallways anyway.

Because I am fully aware of the stuff I do when I am drunk and remember 98%? And I haven't had any comments of doing stupid stuff while I have blacked out, all the stuff I have done when I am drunk is stuff I would otherwise have done anyway.

Why can't I tell you that? It goes perfectly with they are assholes with restraint but assholes none the less.

I have tasted a couple drinks that have been offered to me by friends but I have never and almost certainly will never actually drink. It just has absolutely no appeal to me, and it tastes and smells disgusting to boot.

No, your honor... >_>

In all seriousness: Yes. I'm norwegian, what do you want from me?
As our culture dictates i go alcohol binging every now and then on the weekends so long as there's nothing important going on in class the following week.

It's a great socializer and i try to keep myself at a light and easy stage until everyone else gets smashed then follow. I like to keep up with the mental state of those around me. I think over time it might pan out to an average amount, but as with food i don't suppose having none for a while and then binging would be healthy so i ticked "probably too much" if only because that's probably how my liver feels when it's processing.

Never got blackout drunk though, only partial amnesia the following day. Dunno if that counts for anything.

No, I don't drink alcohol. I can't because I'm on strong anti-seizure medication.

Nope - never have and never will.

Don't see any compelling reason to, and plenty of reasons not to - especially that life presents us with enough potential vices as is, and I try to minimize my own.

It seems to me that people who to drink do so merely out of established habit or because the want to use it to drown their worries; I never established the first and detest the second reason.

So all these people who say they love the taste are just lying?

Sure, but not too often. I've only been what could be described as "drunk" three or four times in my life. But I usually go to a bar every week or so. Not that I very much. Getting drunk is expensive.

After seven years of student's life, preceded by two years of being legally allowed to drink in secondary school, again preceded by the occasional sip of beer when it was ilegal, I can state that I have conquered the absolute hangover.

According to the definition of 'heavy drinker' of the Central Bureau of Statistics, I'm a heavy drinker. But I'm a student.

Do I drink too much? Nah. I don't think so.

-EDIT-

I wonder how many of you people are fun at parties, if you get invited at all...

were you brewing the real beer? alone? i remember my friends grandpa used to do. from what i know its a demanding hobby, sometimes having to stay with it for 24 hours straight and whatnot.
Nah, it takes a couple of hours to brew and about the same to bottle, with 2 weeks or more in between to ferment and another couple of weeks to prime after you bottle. That's using extract kits though, going all grain can take most of a day.
ah, yes, kidna like how i make Kvass, buy some stuff premade already sicne going from the grain is enormous inefficient work.
bonus points if you know what Kvass is.

you drink too much if you drink at all in my opinion. sadly the law does not agree.
I rarely go to parties because i dont like massive conglomerate of drunk people doing stupid things acting like they are enjoying themselves. However when i do go, usually to a party where i actually do know the people involved, i do am fun enough, and i dont need alcohol for that.

Why do you think that? From a health point of view, you live longest when you drink 24-36 g of ethanol a day (2-3 33cl 4.6% beers), beer also keep your teeth in better condition.

I'm 16 and I've tried Beer, Wine, Scotch and Vodka. The warm buzz after downing a mouthful is pretty nice, but they all just taste so fucking terrible. Never been drunk, I just can't drink that much of something that tastes so bad. Even Vodka cut with Sprite tasted horrible. So I don't plan on being a big drinker, no.

Socially, at like at a friend's birthday, or a night out on the town with mates. I probably drink a bit too much during those times, but otherwise I'm as dry as the desert.

Recovered alcoholic here- or as close to recovered as one can be.
Not only do I not drink because, well, see above; I'm also against the idea. After seeing not only what it's done to me, to my life, what it COULD have done to my life if I'd continued drinking that way for a substantial amount of time (ie, many years), but what it's done to our culture and how dangerous it can make otherwise restrained people...
I'm against the idea because it can ruin lives, and because I've seen what it turns (none-addicted) people who get drunk into. And I am almost as terrified of those people, as I am of what alcohol could turn me into.

I'm sorry to those who disagree, but I've seen the absolute worst of what alcohol does to people; from alcoholism to violence. And I can't see any good reason we still sell it, beyond the fact that it's so entrenched in our cultures that there is no way to stop.
