My self control and sense of self are very important parts of who I am, and I don't want to give them away, for even a moment or in part, to a mind altering substance. Also, after you have to carry your own half passed out drunk mother to the car after a football game which you had to cut her off from to keep it from getting worse, it kind of ruins any of the appeal. I was 12, by the way.

Belgian beers you say? You should try Brother Thelonious [http://www.northcoastbrewing.com/beer-brotherThelonious.htm] it's quite strong, but works really really well, especially in this rotten darkness.
Well, living about an hour away from the Belgian border I think that'd be a lot harder to get than the actual Belgian beers, haha!

There's this guy right around the corner from where I live, who imports dozens of different Belgian quality beers directly from the abbeys and sells them in his little living room sized store. If you ever, EVER manage to get your hands on a Straffe Hendrik, a Pa Gijs or a Reinaerts Grand Cru, go for it!

I don't drink alcohol at all and earlier this year I took the next step and joined the IOGT-NTO. The rest of my family members are also teetotalers, as are several of my close relatives, but not for any religious reasons. Like a lot of other people, I like being in control.

Most of my friends drink, though, and I don't hold that against them. After all, being a condescending jerk who sneeres at everyone who doesn't share my lifestyle is not a good way to make friends. I do believe that alcohol causes a lot of problems in society and I would very much like to see a massive decrease in alcohol consumption.

I was that kid who swore not to drink alcohol. I of course did on my 21st birthday. It's an experience for everyone to have for themselves. No one else's experiences or weaknesses are relevant.

as the Fench so rightly say;

Everything in moderation especially moderation

So I don't think there is anything wrong with occationally having a drink!

No, but that's because the stuff tastes awful. No matter how little alcohol you put in an ordinary drink, yes, I can detect it. Otherwise, I suspect I might drink it once in a while on a social basis. Getting drunk for the sake of getting drunk seems kinda stupid, TBH.

I do drink occasionally, but never anything more than a glass of beer at dinner at the weekends. I never get drunk - I have done so occasionally (although one of the times, I didn't know it was alcoholic, and I was about 10, and it was half-fermented wine, and so I was drunk before I knew it), but have never done it purposefully. I hated the feeling in the morning, and I don't like the feeling that you can't really control yourself when you are drunk.

When I'm 18 (I'm 16 now), I might celebrate by going to the pub and having one pint to celebrate my new freedom, however I won't abuse my newfound freedom.

Oh, and I hate the thought that when I'm drunk, my beloved brain cells are being killed off.

I drink primarily with meals- usually wine or something like that.

I've been shit-faced drunk once (when it was my intention) and that ended badly, so I don't plan on trying that again.

I do enjoy the sensation of two servings of alcohol though, so I'll probably just hover around that amount. Alcohol is a depressant, but acts like a stimulant at first because it lowers your inhibition: however, it can quickly go from a "stimulant" to a depressant, so I plan on moderating myself in the future. I did some reaaaaaaally stupid shit that night, but at least I know better now. xD

Oh yes, and I'm currently 18. My parents let me drink with meals, and the other incident was far way from them.

i have a tendancy to drink lots.. which sounds bad
i would say its only out of habit but that sounds worse

BASICALLY i never have money so i have to scrounge for all the drink ill be drinking when im at a party (cheap bastard i am). this lead to a habit of drink whatever i can get because i might not get no more, but... people have started being more generous lately and its turning out pretty bad for me.

i think sometimes you have to be similar levels of drunk to people in your environment or you just don't enjoy the atmosphere as much.

that said alot of people that dont drink seem to do fine so maybe its just me

(is sad because he came out of this looking pretty bad)

Nah, never have, and I don't plan on it. I just have personal morals against inebriation. I appreciate my sobriety.

Doesn't need to be some big convoluted reason, right?

(I have if you count eggnog. But never in a quantity that's gotten me anything near drunk before)

No I don't drink at all I have never seen appeal of being drunk and most people who get drunk usually make a complete fool of themselves or get overly aggressive. I understand that this is an extreme but even given using it in moderation I still don't see the appeal to drinking.

Yes I do. I rarely drink alone though - I'm more of a social drinker. Ales, stouts and whiskey are my favourite drinks. Specific favourites are Famous Grouse whiskey, Captain Morgan's rum, Guinness, Hobgoblin ale and Crabbies alcoholic Ginger Beer.
