Poll: Do you equal post counts as to how long a person has been a member of the Escapist?

Sometimes when I look at the post counts of other members of the Escapist, I immediately think of how long they've been members, then I look at when they joined and sometimes go "D'oh!".

Do you do that too, or am I the only one?

It just seems to happen subconsciously for me.

Oh, and it annoys the crap out of me when somebody who joined a week ago has 4,000+ posts. It indicates they concern themselves more with posting than with making sure what they have to say is worthwhile.

I never really noticed before, but I suppose that I do look at them. Doesn't really equate to anything in my mind though, just numbers.

Well I assume someone didn't make seven hundred posts the day they joined.... but regardless I usually check the date. Ever since I accidentally gave a 'welcome to the Escapist' to a guy with twenty posts who had joined three months before I had.
That was certainly awkward.

No, it seems that a great deal of postings can be done in a very short period of time.

plus since the date that they joined is just under their post count I never need to wonder.

nope, there's tons of people who just post in a thread to get their post count up and most of those times it's a post that is all of one or two words

While standard logic would dictate that someone with a large post count has definately been around for longer than someone with a low one (assuming that both have been writing at the same rate and frequency) I wouldn't be too suprised if you got individuals who joined up ages ago and simply have a stiff upper lip or writer's block.

Bingo. It's one thing if people spend a lot of time here and contribute meaningfully to threads to rack up the posts naturally. But the ones who go Gonzo in a week? Think about what you're saying before you flap your gums.

I make sure to look at both. I just assume long/low means someone typically lurks.

Avatars also enter into it. For some weird reason, posters without avatars make me nervous...unless they have a low post count and early join date. I can't figure out why.

Anyway! I look at the join date to judge a person's Escap-age.
Doing so by post count is pretty useless.

Who exactly are these people? I see a lot of people saying this, but I never really notice it. Sure I see people who make meaningless posts, but they usually have less than 1000.

Yes, I just did that with you and failed epically when I saw that you joined two months ago. I've been a member for over a year longer than you and I have a 1/5 of the posts.

...and then there's Neonbob who joined six months after me and has 200x the number of posts.

I mostly post in the forum games and RP's where I usually like being silly and everyone joines me in it.

Ive been on the escapist since like, october 2008 but my account got banned. So you cant just assume someone is new here cuz of there join date or somthing, things like new accounts and stuff

I only mean the account they have at that time along with the join date and post count on that account. I don't really care if they've had 1, 2, 5, 14 or 50 accounts.
