Sometimes when I look at the post counts of other members of the Escapist, I immediately think of how long they've been members
No. I just look at how long they've been a member, since this appears right underneath the post count, it seems easy enough to do. Although to be honest I almost never look at either of these things because I don't think they mean anything.

Post Counts are onlya viable tool for determining at a glance how much someone has posted (lol).. Basically just showing how much they've made themselves known.

There are a LOT of old school lurkers... I can't imagine what they'd be doing, lurking for years just seems weird, but they're out there.

Join Date is better to determine how long someone's been here. Post count is more about how MUCH someone has been involved on the forums.

People like Max and Neonbob taught me that high post count does not equal long membership. I probably have a pretty big post count for my presence, too.

Besides, their join date is right there, and even then they probably lurked some before (like me, for example, I remember things from late 2007).

I generally look at post count to see how 'experienced' they are. A person can be here for a year and still be a douche while a person can be here for a week and add valuable contribution to the forums. I guess in a way i associate experience through output with time spent, so yes i guess i do look at the post count to judge how long a person has been here. I only have 60-something posts yet i've been here for a while so i don't really expect anyone to give me much credibility for example. Cookies for those who do though!

Due to the existence of the "Forum Games & RP" sub-forum, where people post on a thread with one sentence, every minute, without much thought, I really don't.

There are people who have been here for a really long time, and have a small amount of posts, and people who have massively, but who's posts I don't find very interesting at all.

So I just don't do that anymore.

I am guilty of judging people on how long they've been here...

OT: Yes, I do. It's strange when you see someone with a really small amount of posts, then you see they joined before you.

I feel like I've haven't said anything at all for over a year when my post count is comparatively low.

When judging how long someone's been here, looking at their join-date is usually a more accurate indicator than their post count. But that's just me...

Nope.
If I posted on every thread I looked at, I'd be Gonzo by now.
I've been a member for a while, and don't have an epic post count.

Usually look at the join date.

Large Post counts are for losers.
I know, right?
It's like they have nothing better to do with their life!
...damn that joke was too obvious.
Shit. I'm slipping a bit.

Anyway! I look at the join date to judge a person's Escap-age.
Doing so by post count is pretty useless.
Seriously, how do you find 58.9 posts per day worth making?

I dont understand how length of time on escapist and post count even factor into one another for making a difference.

Yeah, that was a pretty weak joke. I expected more of you Bob. I think you've been too busy nuking whales to work on jokes. [joking, everyone, Bob is awesome]

Exactly
Not how long they have been on the escapist, just how often they are on.

I look at join date to figure out when a person joined. I'm just funny like that.
Oh, and it annoys the crap out of me when somebody who joined a week ago has 4,000+ posts. It indicates they concern themselves more with posting than with making sure what they have to say is worthwhile.
This is how I feel exactly. I have been a member here for eight months and the number of people who have been here for less than a month with a higher post count is... thought provoking.

Forum Games & RP, and User Groups. Trust me on the former of those two, you have no idea how fast your post count racks up from that place.

On topic, I don't really check someone's post count to see how long they've been a member, as it's a really unreliable way of telling. Even as a way of looking into how regular a poster someone is, it doesn't take into account whether or not someone lurks more than posts on the site. This is why nowadays, whilst I will look at a user's post count, I won't use it to judge them or take anything into account from it.
