Most of the time I don't care about things. Only really interesting things catch my attention. The most recent thing was the election of the president of the USA.

And I don't watch TV or listen to the radio so I'm missing out on some interesting things.

Some things get me.

I just realized this when my best friends grandmother died. I knew her too. She was really nice and all.

But back to the point, she died in the hospital. Me and my friend were downstairs at the cafeteria getting some breakfast and she just stopped living and EVERYONE started crying. I didn't know why. I just couldn't join in with them. My GF even started crying because they were crying?

I don't watch the new anymore, the only reason I stay informed is because of the Daily Show.
this. even if I did watch the news I just shake my head at the stupid things that keep happening and then do something else.

I've always been a fan of the Dadaist movement: reverting to artistic and possibly rational infantilism as a way of dealing with tragedy. You don't ignore it, you don't get buried in it and get apathetic, you don't turn into an asshat a jerk and make fun of everything in some desperate attempt to ignore your own emotions. You simply approach everything as if you're seeing it all for the very first time, and act accordingly.

Of course it makes people think you're either cold or autistic, but it's surprising how unoffensive it makes you as a whole.
That's very interesting. I think I'll look into that a bit.
This would be the best time for me to link you to my website, if indeed the one I have wasn't a mess, in that I was actually posting the backlog of 30-odd articles I've written in this mild Dadaist style.

As things are, I cannot. Way to go, me.

I don't particularly have a lot of interest in news stories as a whole. My usual rationalisation is along the lines of "It isn't as bad as they make it seem, and the chances of it happening to me are miniscule at best. News is nothing but a bunch of Republicans trying to scare us into giving them more power..."
There, fixed that for you. And yes, I agree that there is very little I can do about it, and I have enough of my own problems without dealing with something I can't control, so fuck it.
that kind of apathy stemmed from bias is what scares me the most. why would republicans want to scare you by informing you of the growing frequency of mass shootings, something that could be solved with gun control?
Because it means more power for them. If they don't have gun control, there will be shootings, and that can be used to scare people. If they utilize police to solve the problem, they look like the heroes.
so you're saying the objective of the republican agenda is to scare and depress people, not try to preserve the second amendment?

I'm saying pretty much any Republican on TV has the objective to look like a hero, while actually doing just about nothing.
I know Republicans who want to preserve the second amendment, and yes, I respect them.

things are a lot easier to deal with when you don't care. just make sure they don't come to bite you in the ass.

i normally don't care about the bad stuff, because it's just going to keep happeneing, and the media in every country is going to report it, because people wi9ll listen to the bad stuff. people don't want to hear about how great everyone else is doing, but they do want to hear the misery, which is why dross like Eastenders 'sells' so well.

when it comes to stupidity causing the badness, then i do care, because it's someone who has allowed this to happen by their ineptitude, but stuff like the tsunami, or Hurricanes i'm really not that bothered, because shit like that happens all the time, due to natural causes.

when you combine natural disasters with stupidity i get really worked up, the most notable example is peoples houses getting flodded. most of this happens on natural floodplains near rivers. WHAT ARE YOU IDIOTS DOING BUILDING HOUSES ON A FLOODPLAIN?

I don't like seeing puppies get kicked by pricks.

But if said pricks died in a car accident, I'd only care if it made me take a detour.

I care if I can do something about it, or when it's my fault. So most of the time I don't care.

Exception is horrific shit people do to people deliberately on a personal level. That still makes my blood boil.

Um, because Republicans are scare-mongers like that, and look at any country that has had Gun-control's implemented, gun crimes went UP for the majority of them. Think about it, if you make it criminal to own a gun, only the criminals will have guns. ESPECIALLY in America, where guns are kind of a cultural thing.

Just a final thought that one of my friends said that rings truer than ever this day:

"Democrats are not the solution, but Republicans ARE the problem."
what is the solution then? a no-party system where everyone works for the benefit of the nation instead of just their own group's agenda?

I can't say I care that much anymore. I may have at one time, but now I have seen so many stories on the news of murders, shootings and the like that it just doesn't bother me anymore. Especially when I am bogged down with enough stress and misery in my own life (ok, so it's not that bad), the last I want or need is to have someone else's dumped on me as well.

Here in Scotland, the local news very bad for this sort of thing. Especially if you happen to miss the British news which usually covers things that may actually effect your way of life and therefore worth watching and you have to put up with the Scottish news which will most likely spend about 10 minutes on the same damn murder story that's been covered for what feels like an eternity.

I would care if it was something along those lines that did effect me on a personal, but I certainly wouldn't want some hypocritical news team spreading it around the country like it's the latest thing.

I find myself almost completely and totally apathetic to everything in the news. Not sure whether that's good or bad, but it's the way it is.
