Usually I make a guy for the first run through, but make female characters all the time the second time round. It's kinda fun. Also, they sometimes get different dialogue, and they ALWAYS get the nicer clothes.

Nah.

When an RPG gives me the choice to create my own character, chances are it's A) in first-person and I won't see my character anyway, and/or B) the character will be silent and my choice of gender will only be cosmetic, rather than impacting any part of the game in any way.

So I just generally play as a dude. Never been super inclined to play as a lady when it serves no purpose.

Always, always, always. I have to play as a dude 9 times out of 10 of every other instance, so almost the only time I get to step into the shoes of the opposite sex is when the decision is left up to me rather than developers/consumers who haven't outgrown their cootie-phobia.

I'll swap between the two depending on the game. I often take table-top characters I've played before and "convert" them into the game I'm playing. It just depends.

I almost always play the opposite gender in games.
The female form is appealing to me, the male form isn't.
It's really just that simple.

The only time I play my own gender are the following:
- I'm role playing as myself
- I'm playing through the game a 2nd time and want to experience new dialogue options
- I'm playing an achetype that just fundamentally comes across as male in my eyes (Diablo 3 Male Barbarian just seems to fit. Every other class I play as a female)

I do, but only rarely and usually only when an achievement or something is involved. I very rarely ever do it just for shits and giggles.

I only roll a male character when I have no choice. Used to be because of the standard "blah blah blah, X number of hours Blah Blah nice ass to look at" reason. Now though? I generally can't stand to play a 'male character' in a game with full customization for very long anymore, and even in gender locked games, that dude better have some neat ability's to justify me keeping him, or be a suitably 'big stompy thing' , I like big stompy things. :3

I try to play female whenever I can. There are not enough female main characters in a combat role in games and I rather look at an attractive female wearing cool armor than a generic male.

I generally go with the first epic name to come to mind that isn't taken. whether it sounds female/male makes my choice for me.

Absolutely. As to why? I'm not totally sure. There is definitely an aspect of playing as a character that I find attractive, but there's also something I really enjoy about seeing very capable women being the hero.

I used to played only as the gender I am (male) but that changed a few weeks ago.

On guild Wars 2 I just got fed up how my Sylvari Elementist apperance (excluding the face on my Sylvari ranger, the only other one that I liked is this wooden carved face but I only use brown color so it look like a tree which limited my colours combo) and exluding my current light armoured that my other characters are wearing, the rest of the high end armours like the Cultural armour look unappealing on my Elementist (why does it got no pants?).

Thanks to the new achivement updeate feature I got the total makeup kit item for free (it allow me to redesign my character but it normally cost real money to buy it). I used that kit to give a go at making a female and I end up liking the apperance I've chosen and the new colour combo that goes well with my current armour colours.

So overall I had rule 63 my Elementist for the better and I got used to my chracter new voice and the armour.
