yes but rarely within a year of each other, i usually replay them over christmas(i am done with the november releases and december rarely sees good new games) or during the summer(general release draught). except this year because fuck dota and its timestealing appeal.

I have over 260 hours clocked on like each of my Fire Emblem games. With the large number of units it's hard NOT to want to replay it. I also have spent way too much of my life on Tales of Symphonia, Skies of Arcadia, and generally I just like to return to my favourites. I don't do it as much except for Fire Emblem, but I didn't used to buy a whole lot of games so I'd replay what I had a lot. Even when I know the story I can milk a lot of enjoyment out of linear games.

Yeah, I think they're designed to be replayed because each character is a new experience.

"Create new character", have similar but more/less challenging adventure.

I do. The play session is brought on by fond memories of it a few years after i first played it. I just.. I just want more. But ive played down so much of my favourite rpgs already it begins to get boring.

Topic.

Personally,i find that an RPG loses its appeal if you have to sit through the story again, especially if its a long game. Maybe if it unlocks an optional dungeon or new story element, but other than that i am gone after the last boss.
I haven't replied to the poll but I have a feeling that its going to be hugely skewed in favour of YES. The simple reason being that you're essentially polling people that love RPGs about this habit. This is the subset of gamers that love to play games with focus on story. These are similar to the people that love re-reading books.

And yes, I have. Mainly because I play the RPG to enjoy the story but I play DmC for the action. Once I've mastered the action game I don't need to master it again. But playing a story again is enjoyable.

It certainly is a big endeavor, and I only do so for the ones that never get old and are real masterpieces. Open-ended elements help, but I'll replay a linear story if it's just that good. Currently playing Chrono Cross yet again. Never get's old.

I replay my RPGs all the time, particularly Knights of The Old Republic 2, but I do agree sometimes the sitting through the same story again and again can be annoying though. If it gets too much I usually just skip cutscenes and power through the dialogue.

I will if I enjoyed it. I don't usually play it again straight away though, I leave it until I can't still recite whole cutscenes. I played Final Fantasy XIII annually for about 3 years (even though my sister took over the third playthrough and it turns out she's better than me at the game). I just finished Tales of Graces though, and will probably continue my weird tradition of a summer playthrough of a JRPG with that.

I will sometimes play the game through right away if there's choices to make, just too see if it makes any real difference. But I think the only RPG I've actually done that with is Fallout 3.

They're easier to replay than shooters, so yeah. Get several characters, run them through the world in a different way, exploring different places, using different classes and playstyles. There's more stuff to do once you've finished an RPG. Most other genres its just repeating the same shit gameplay over and over. Few games of that type will I ever replay.

Probably More than any other Genre...

If I actually sat down and counted through games I've replayed fully I'm pretty sure 90% of them would be RPG's...

I replay games that have variation. I will replay a game to play evil, if I played good, kill people I let live last time, get different companions, choose different conversation options as last time.

I want to do an "asshole Lee" play through of The Walking Dead, just to see how people react.

RPGs are really the only type of game I ever find myself replaying lately. I've played through Fallout 3 at least three or four times and FFVIII probably at least five times. I played New Vegas through a few times as well but that was mostly just to experience the different faction endings.

I voted 'sometimes'.

FFVII is definitely one I've completed more than once, and FFX and X-2. I was fond of that world.

But I think more often it's adventure games I go back to and repeat. Riven or any of the later Myst games, for example- those games are like these quiet beautiful art spaces to explore with no particular goal in mind.

Same with Shadow of the Colossus... that's an overworld I can wander in, doing nothing, and still feel engaged and entranced by the lonely beauty of it.

Dreamfall, too. I've replayed that several times. It's like comfort food.

(and- it's FINALLY getting a sequel -very excited for this release!)

(this trailer drove me bonkers, even with no gameplay and the music stealing HARD from Inception, lol)

Huh. I guess for me it's that some games maybe don't flow so well the first time, maybe because the game itself is a little janky, and so going back forearmed with knowledge of the game makes the game easier. And being easier allows me to be more of a tourist within the game and enjoy it's design and world for it's own sake.

:)

Always and many times. There are so many paths for you to discover on later playthroughs as well as enjoyment to be found in immersing yourself into your character. That's the charm of RPG's for me really, no matter if I choose all the same dialogue options and same skills and all while replaying, you can play that same character from a different viewpoint in your head.

I don't know, does Dark Souls count? It doesn't have anything you have to 'sit through'. The story is just sort of the game world.

But in all seriousness, yep. Deus Ex HR, Mass Effect, Skyrim, Dragon's Dogma, etc. Especially if there are multiple playstyles or choices. In fact rarely less than twice, because I allow my first playthrough to be a fuck up in terms of build and choice rather than attempting to metagame from the get-go. Much more enjoyable to experience it first without worrying about wasting stat points/not getting the best ending and that sort of thing.

Hell yes, Fallout series , Mass Effect Series, Skyrim, I play them again and again. It's pure escapism for me, I love to lose myself in another world for a few hours! Plus in Fallout especially the character creation can majorly change the game, melee to guns to speech to sneak+steal, all ways to complete the same missions and often with varied results.

Agree with the main quest lines though, it can be painful to go through those for the umpteenth time just to get into the open world proper!

One caveat on new characters though, I can't play the bad guy, I try every so often and I just can't do it. I can see the joy in doing it, but I genuinely feel guilty being a dick even in games. :-(

I love replaying RPGs as I will usually play 3 archetypes. The rogue with a heart of gold, the violent and sadistic warrior, and the disinterested mage. That tends to give me my value for money I must say.

Back in the day constantly. As I have gotten older, less interested in gaming thanks to the state it is in and simply just having other priorities in life now not as often. Last RPG I replayed was Dragon Age Origins, though I do intend to replay Fallout NV with all the added DLC combined someday.

My problem is that Not only do I have too little time (despite not having a traditional reason for so little time) but I have such a mammoth backlog of stuff that I still am working off games ive had since 2011.
