So for the last couple of months I've been thinking more and more about death. More specifically my own. And to be honest I'm terrified of it. I don't believe in any kind of afterlife so when I die, everything will end.

The thought of everything just ending is really scary to me.

Yes, I know that I won't be able to reflect upon it because I will be dead, but still. Something about the very concept of everything ending has me really scared and depressed.

I guess I'm wondering if this is something that's unique to me or if more people have the same fear.

So my question, Escapists is: Do you fear death?

EDIT: SORRY FOR DOUBLE THREAD. IF THE MODS ARE ABLE, MAYBE THEY CAN MERGE MY TWO THREADS? IF NOT, PLEASE DELETE THIS ONE. THANKS IN ADVANCE! :)

Sometimes, but I fear the consequences of NEVER dying even more. I consider death more as a form of sleep where the world won't have to bother you anymore.

I'm unsure.

I think I'm more afraid of the pain of death, rather than death itself.

Ideally, I'd still have all my marbles, and beside the usual complaints of being old, quite healthy.

If I have to die, at least let it be without suffering and with dignity.

Did your chin-tentacles wiggle when you wrote that? :)

OT: No, I dont. Its inevitable. But Im sure lots of people do fear it and reflect on it more then me
.
Interesting sidenote: I was clinically dead at one point in my life... I got better :)

Sometimes I fear it, but mostly it's just the fear of dying at the wrong moment.

I want to die when it all ends. When I can see the big mushroom cloud, the wall of fire, or when I hear the killer bees or see the apocalyptic riders charging towards the screaming masses of stupid humans. That would be a nice moment to die. In bed having a good orgasm with some naughty girls is almost an attractive alternative (but not so appealing for the girls I guess).

Definding something or someone I love would be okay as well. But thats about all. I ride a motorcycle every day and considering the extremely stupid and completely oblivious car drivers death is always close. One car driver steering without looking and signaling and I'm done for. Then it is finally over I don't have to get angry about those shitty overhyped games they release nowadays...

Don't you see? That isn't a counter-argument to being scared of it, that, is precisely the scary thing about it!

I think of myself as coping pretty well with things that initially scare me. My frame of mind means I can usually overcome my fears through a simple change of perspective. But death, death is what I'd call my one true fear.

I would give anything to not die. I would very readily watch all those that I hold dearest grow sick and perish. I would happily witness the ongoing development of humanity, possibly to the point that I become a freakish outcast from society. I would happily watch the eventual end of life on earth, and even the universe. I would happily float, infinitely alone, trapped in a black hole for all eternity, if it just means that I'll still exist, and have conscious thought.

It's not death that scares me, what scares me is dying after living a shitty life. All I ask is that I die heroically. I look on it like results day for exams... it's going to happen regardless of what I do, so if there's nothing I can do, why worry?

But y'know, once I'm gone I'll be past caring, I suppose... might as well make the best of what you got, right?

I can't say I'm afraid of it (after all, I'm safe right here in front of my computer), but in the event of a life-threatening situation, I doubt I'd feel the same way. Personally, I don't think it matters what anyone's answer is as long as that fear doesn't govern that person's life.

On an unrelated note, Reliq: what is that avatar you're using, and where can I get it?

I don't fear death now, but I didn't like the idea when I was younger that's for sure!

I fear life, as in living without purpose, accomplishments, friends, family, or any sign of my having existed at all. I don't want to be lying on my deathbed filled with regret and with nothing to show for my life's work, even if in the scope of things it be totally insignificant. If you've passed away unmourned, unloved, or even unremarked upon, then you've done something wrong at some point in your life.
