On the one hand, since I've been here I've seen it dropped regularly on members I've seen for years. I mean, like Vault 101. On the other, it seems like as long as you don't insult other members then the mods don't care as long as it doesn't break a rule explicitly stated in the posting guidelines.

I'm not antagonistic in nature and I tend to exhibit a lot of tact in my boring little replies. So ya, I do feel pretty safe. I don't push the envelope, but even if there weren't any rules regarding advertising, harassment, troll accusing, low content, etc, I won't start because it's not what I do anyways.

I fear the warning hammer more than the ban hammer. Being sarcastic is apparently enough for me to get hit with a warning for trolling or antagonizing a user so nowadays I mostly just keep my mouth shut.

I FEAR NO HAMMER WIELDED BY MORTALS!

OT: I usually just post wildly since most of what I post isn't going to get me in trouble. Anything that's a little more casual and kind of playful gets posted in Usergroups or Pub Club. I've only gotten in trouble once for a shameless self bump or perhaps low content going by the actual rules.

Though, I am afraid that Marter is going to slam me with the hammer when I'm distracted :p

The only behavior I have to change when I'm on this forum to avoid moderator wrath is making sure my posts aren't to short. Other than that I talk the same way I do on any other forum and have never received a warning.

Nope, because I bribe all the mods and staff so I will never be banned, never! MUAHAHAHA! of the way I tend to post on any forum - non-insulting, decent-sized posts - means that I'm unlikely to be warned here, even if the rules are apparently stricter than most places. And that's the way I like it! :D

I only ever post on the Escapist forums. I've tried other sites with similar interests but found the moderation to be either extremely lacking, showing favoritism toward certain posters, or both. Here the mods are more just in their duties than in any other forum I've attempted to frequent. Nobody is shouted down for disagreeing, and if anyone attempts such an act they are swiftly dealt with, something I have personal experience with after a poster started a reply with "And this is why people like you...". In other forums there were always those long time posters with 5000+ posts that the mods have a fondness for, posters that will sit in a subforum and fester like a disease, killing any worthwhile debate. These people often would become mods themselves only to spread their influence to topics that they otherwise would have no part of. That does not happen here. Here we can discuss taboo topics like religion and politics, topics that could easily bring out the worst in people and so long as nobody gets terribly preachy, like for example creating multiple threads with slightly different wording expressing the same opinion, we can do so without incurring moderator wrath.

Nope. I don't feel I ever cross the line with my posts. If I ever do and I haven't even realized it, then the punishment dealt will be just but I don't expect to or hope to ever have it come to that.

I've never read forum rules because they are mostly a long-winded way of saying don't be a dick, which i always try not to be.

*ahem* *taps mic*

All our threads have come
Here but now they're locked
Posters don't fear the hammer
Nor do the wind, the sun or the rain
We can be like they are

Come on baby... Don't fear the Hammer
Baby take my ban... Don't fear the Hammer
We'll be able to fly... Don't fear the Hammer
Baby I'm your man...

Usergroups are fun
Here but now they're gone
Clarion and Evil Smurf
Are together in eternity...
Clarion and Evil Smurf

40,000 men and women everyday... (Like Clarion and Evil Smurf)
40,000 men and women everyday... (Redefine happiness)
Another 40,000 posting everyday...(We can be like they are)

Come on baby... Don't fear the Hammer
Baby take my ban... Don't fear the Hammer
We'll be able to fly... Don't fear the Hammer
Baby I'm your man...

Love of Pub is one
Here but now they're gone
Came the last night of sadness
And it was clear we couldn't go on
The door was open and Nasrin appeared
The candles blew and then disappeared
The curtains flew and then she appeared
Saying don't be afraid

Come on baby... And we had no fear
And she ran to him... Then they started to fly
We looked backward and said goodbye
We had become like they are
She had taken his ban
We had become like they are

Come on baby...don't fear the Hammer

The warnings I have received could have fallen on either side of a coin - either I was going to get the warning or the person I was responding to would get a warning for "baiting".

At the same time if I was to be banned I wouldn't care. I would take my "business" elsewhere.

This is really the only forum I've ever been on. Sure, the rules may seem a little more strict than most, but there's a good reason for it. They keep things civil, intelligent and enjoyable. Plus, what I've seen of the modding on this site has been fair and accurate, and I know as long as I keep in line (and don't make anymore dead baby jokes) I'll be fine.

the forums here seem fairly healthy. Lot of posters. Long posts. Alot of arguing without swearing and vitriol.. I think they're doing alright. (and I did get a warning for a low content post recently too lol)

Seeing as your title was a little misleading I'll post what I thought you meant.

I don't fear the banhammer because you'd have to be pretty stupid to get enough warnings, and suspensions in a relatively short time in order to get banned. They aren't even permanent, I used to have two warnings but they got revoked because I learned how to follow the rules.

You'd also have to straddle the line for a long time and get extremely unlucky if you undeservedly got banned. The mods maybe aren't perfect but they don't throw warnings around willy nilly (that seems a lot funnier when typed out), like I said you'd have to get extremely unlucky to get banned undeservedly.

A little more on topic; I used to post elsewhere, but sure, I changed my habits to suit there rules when I posted anything here a couple of years ago. But the forums here are much better than anywhere else I've posted for it, so a quick change of habits was worth it.

I have one warning. I got it for basically saying, "I agree with what this person said." I've used these forums in a limited capacity from that moment on.

The mods around here are a little sensitive and seem to reward infractions and bans like they're handing out candy. Combine that with my deep disdain of authority figures and it's probably only a matter of time before the banhammer swings my way. I DO NOT FEAR THE BANHAMMER.

Oh well. The Escapist forums are still a thousand times better than that cesspool of fascists and sycophants, the Steam forums.

It really means nothing to me, whether I am banned or not. I say what I mean and I mean what I say. If I get banned, so what? If I just can't live without the power to post my unpopular opinions in a grumpy, abrasive manner, I'll just sign up a new account using a VPN proxy, but I have never had so much spare time and been that insecure.

I don't post on other Forums but I have read through them-and my thoughts on the Mods on this thread is:

1-That they are inconsistent across the board while this is understandable in most cases as there are different mods with different thought patterns this can lead to unfair judgment.

2-Contributors have privilege and can get away with things we can't such as what they post/say would get a normal member banned/suspended but for them it's ok. This is unfair-sends the wrong message-Is a double standard and is hypocritical. When questioned the mods say it only for video's and that on the forums they are just like us this is a blatant lie as I saw Grey Carter on an article post Pornographic material while the image was removed he received no warning or punishment.

3-They can at times punish you if you have an unfavourable opinion-I'm not talking about if you say your opinion rudely-but just having a different opinion can end badly for you if you're not carefull although they aren't that bad with this and really the problem comes down to inconsistency/double standards.

The rule I dislike the most is the Low Content one.
I think that sometime I will use an image to convey an idea, which is all the content a comment needs and be warned for it.
It's odd that the rule targets the form of the content in order to decide whether it's of low content.
