I do not fear the ban hammer because I make it a point to be respectful to all posters. Also, I do not worry about post count. I simply enjoy the content available here and, all the while enjoying said content, make some e-friends.

That's all I got on this subject.

I've already received 2 warnings for which I thought "Oh come on, I'm not even allowed to post that?!" They were things that wouldn't even warrant a second glance on the other forums I go to. They can moderate it however they want though. But I do think they're pretty strict on certain things.

I post in many forums and sub forums and I've never been afraid of being banned. At worst I've only ever been warned and only on this site. On this site I got 1 warning undeserved that was removed and 1 deserved one that wasn't. I didn't try to lose that one as it was deserved. Also 1 probation from before warnings were a thing.

I'm not sure why I'm in that song.

I do not fear the banhammer.

I respect it, there's a difference.

well, far as The Escapist goes, I generally don't give the mods a reason to bother me, so no, don't fear it.

course, then there's some of the other Forums I've been to where you can say what ever the hell you want and the mods wont do a damn thing when they really should.

Come to think of it, both the warnings I got were after 5K, but that was a coincidence.

OT: Not really. I learn the general rules of any given forum and work within them. I don't even find the Escapist all that "strict." And while I'm always torn about the rule, the "low content post" rule eliminates a lot of the worst behaviours I see on most other forums and actually forces me to put a shred of thought into my responses.

It's refreshing in a world of "lols" and "+1s."

Quoted for awesomeness. :)

Anywho: I do post on a couple other places, but in general I don't fear being banned (or even warned) on most sites, including the Escapist. I will certainly get snarky or vociferously defend my comments when it's called for, but I don't get dragged into all-out flame wars, so I feel pretty safe most of the time.

generally i'm nicer on here than elsewhere, but thats more because i prefer the community here and am willing to be less of a dick. generally i'll only get arsey if somebody provokes me, but i still keep it civil enough to not incur mod wrath afaik

I'm going to speak my mind no matter what. If I get banned because I expressed my ideas the wrong way, that's my fault. But if I get banned because my freedom of speech and expression isn't allowed here, then I won't be upset because that means The Escapist will have become the kind of place that I don't want to be. Either way, no fear.

I've only ever gotten one warning, and that was for using the phrase "U mad?" commonly used in trolling. Although, I didn't mean the phrase in a trolling way, I was just inquiring what made the poster (who was my rl friend) take so long to reply. Nevertheless, it was a reminder, and I felt I deserved it even if just for that.

I've never had a low content post warning, or any other type of warning at all. If I have too little or nothing useful to post at all, I won't. Frivolous posting belongs on the Forum Games.

I don't see anything wrong with these forums other than the rigid rules making everyone a little, erm...hoity-toity. Sometimes I wish I could make a dirty joke without it being ignored for fear of moderator wrath or without killing the thread...

I only post on the Escapist... so I'll talk about that.

No, I'm not fearful of the banhammer. I respect it (I just got another warning yesterday ;__;), but if you do not attract its attention, it will not hit you.

I feel that the relatively high level of mod control is a part of what makes this such a well-behaved community (meaning that this being the internet, things could've been a LOT worse).

I post at several forums, my activity on the others is, however, increasingly rare. My patience with a few specific kinds of posters has been at its all-time low as of late. So to answer your question - no. Being a member of forums with a more relaxed set of rules doesn't make me fear the possibility of getting banned here for things I could get away with elsewhere. On the contrary, it gives me a frame of reference, a number of examples of behaviour that is not acceptable.

The general rule of thumb is - if you find it annoying, don't do it. It has served me well so far.

C because you have no power over me. XD

I don't fear the banhammer beczause I follow the rules. Be polite, think about whether my posts are contributing to the discussion, don't call someone a troll even if I think they are one, and don't troll anyone no matter how much I think they might deserve it.

If I feel confused about what a user has quoted me for, I might ask a user group for help. This ensures that I know where they're coming from, and can respond appropriately.

Seems to have worked so far.

I got two warnings.
One was for flaming when I literally just got here, and the other was for a low content post.
Am I worried? Not really.
I want to spend years on this forum.
Having to be banned and maybe resort to ban hopping (which makes your situation worse) is not an ideal thing for me.

Yes.

Because I have been told quite frankly, one does not even have to violate the rules to incur mod wrath.
I can't say I've seen all mod wrath occurrences, but every one I have seen have followed the letter of the Escapist rule page.

And forum popularity doesn't mean anything either. If people rack up the max infractions they are out, there is an appeals system, but I haven't seen too many people get out of it by that.

I consider the forum and the mods to be it very fair.

A) I post in multiple forums and am afraid I'll incur moderator wrath for making the sort of posts I make elsewhere

Basically this, I'm overly concerned about this forum to the point where I'd rather not post at all. When people are being retarded I tend to go autist and tell them so, that is a "Warning" here. Thus I just don't post, just don't read threads and enjoy the Jimquisition and now to a lesser extent zero punctuation.

I've never so much as earned a warning, because I try to always be polite and take a page from Shamus Young's rulebook: "don't post angry." I also try to always put thought into every post I make here, which incidentally protects against the warnings that come of posting very short responses (Less than 10 words)

And no, I don't. If it comes, it comes. It's not going to be the end of the world like I've seen some users act like it is. :p
