Not really, sometimes I read the threads there when there's nothing interesting in Off-Topic.
I rarely post though because I know I'll get angry at some point.
That's a wise precaution. I think JoJo was right about people getting themselves banned in R&P. One of the best ways to avoid getting burned is to never jump into the flames to begin with.

I stay away from it, religion and politics are boring and both topics just evoke pointless discussions.
From your statement I believe that you would be a natural.

The other posters would want references, of course. They'd insist, probably.

I'm not too afraid of it, I just like the other sections of the forum. It's not as scary as the basement! *shudders* I used to lurk but now I just don't. I may be brave and post in there someday soon!
Padwolf, "captain teemo" here. What exactly is the basement? :D
Captain Teemo Sir! I'm afraid I'm too scared... the basement is a place of sheer evil. I got too close to it one day and my hair turned green! Then I got closer and... and... I can't say what happened! *runs and hides in a corner*
Damnit why will noone tell me what the fucking basement is. me and Wykyd have been trying to figure it out but noone will tell us!! GRRRR
You must try and venture there one day, but be warned, there might be a big monster down there! D:

It can be just as bad in Off-Topic though. With some issues, R&P is actually less reactive than OT.

OT: I do not find the R+D forum very interesting. I have also noticed that most of the posters are rude and insulting towards anyone who professes to be religious. The amount of sneering that goes on in R+P is disgusting.

Concerning this thread's side topic: I stay out of the basement, but if the others want to find out what is in there...then let them! The rest of us will be safer, if you know what I mean.

I'm not sure I've ever posted there. I find threads there tend to fall into three categories: Flame wars, subjects that I do not have the intelligence discuss, or subjects that I simply do not give enough of a fuck about to think hard about or research. I just don't want to have to have serious debates in my spare time, it isn't enjoyable. It certainly doesn't help
that it seems to either attract less friendly people or bring out the worst in people.

..and as for the basement? I thought we'd all forgotten about the horrors that lie within.

I probably couldn't hold my own in an discussion argument, so I don't post there, but I will read the topics sometimes. Mostly to amuse myself in how vicious it can get.

I occasionally visit it, especially if there's something big in the news (things like the election and the beginning of the Arab Spring), but I rarely post. I get tied up in enough arguments in off topic as it is, no need to go seeking them out. Especially because of just how annoying the anti-theists in R&P can get.

Religion and politics invariably bring out people's inner retard. I know if I go in there I'll rapidly start losing respect for folks around here.
I had to learn that people were often like that the hard way

I rather enjoy reading through that stuff. I haven't seen too much EVILLLLL!!!! in there, to be honest. I learn, and, even if there's some EVILLLLLL!!! I enjoy learning. Learning is... fun.

i actually made an account to post in a thread in the R&P section, and i continued to do so until i got into a heated debate with one user, which then led to a massive derailing of the thread (much to the OPs misfortune). now i just kinda float around posting things at random on threads that seem neat.

I'm not afraid of it, it's just that I see how absolutely asinine some (most) arguments are in regular topics on the escapist. I already get a headache reading those, I really don't feel like giving myself an aneurysm by reading peoples' charged opinions on "controversial" topics.

But I can also understand why it has such a reputation for being just one step above The Escapist's dreaded basement.
Huh? I thought the R&P Forums were the Escapist's dreaded basement.

Anyway, no I don't really fear them, but I couldn't be asked to visit them either. I really don't have the patience for that kind of thing.

To borrow a line from Guild Wars' resident psycho-*****, Gwen: "I don't fear you. I hate you. There's a difference"

Naturally, I vote bacon.

Mostly its just people trying to look smarter than other people. People just waving around their E-peens.

Religion and politics are the two things people can't seem to be civil about. Hell, those two things have been responsible for the majority of wars throughout history.

Add in the internet and the Greater dickwad theory and... Yeah, no thank you.

Far as I'm concerned there is a reason they gave those topics their own forum. People can rarely talk about those thing civilly irl, there's no way anything good can come out of discussing them on the internet.

I've little use for ether topic, and arguing with some one as thick headed as me on their stance on things won't really change anything and would likely result in a ban of some flavor.

NOW

the RP forums, i pretty much live there now

I have to agree with you about the anti-religious air within the R&P section.

There are a few of us who are religious in some way--even if you're just an Animist like me--and some of the other posters seem to get thrills laying into the posters who defend religions and religious groups--usually by generalizing. It hasn't happened to me but I don't like it when I see it happen to others.

Unfortunately this often leads to the religious posters getting Gang-Pounced upon.

On the plus side there has slowly been a growing feeling of weariness with such anti-religious fervor in the R&P forum. I think the general population of posters are getting just plain tired of the Anti's rants: "All religions are evil!" and "Religions serve no good purpose!" are phrases I've run into that pretty much demonstrate just how the Anti's are inclined towards painting religious folk and organizations with a single (and blatantly naive) broad brush of absolutism.

Bacon, I honestly don't care but prefer it flaming when I do have a go.

Honestly I've only been there a couple times, since I don't post much on forums, but from what I've seen it's not all bad. Most of it is just people not reading the original post or some misunderstanding.
