I expect Battlefront 3 to be riddled with microtransactions.

Only 10 EA points to unlock the Republic Jet Trooper!

15 EA points to unlock the X-Wing Starfighter!

50 EA points to unlock Master Yoda in gameplay!

Map packs etc. It's going to be horrible :(

Battlefront 3 should be fine...

I'm cautiously optimistic for some good games before a downward slope appears. I'm not too invested in the franchise so preorder bait won't get to me while I wait for a couple of reviews to come in to help me gauge the quality before purchase.

Yeah, that sounds about right.

I always got pissed off with the wacky level design that kept turning me around and around.
And then there's a point after which it seems like everything's Force immune. Which, really, only adds to my problem with the novelty wearing off.

We can dream, though, can't we?
And I totally will. I just keep imagining bigger, badder RS levels and drool...

The Prequels maybe.

Oh burn! BURN!

Now, to totally ruin the joke through over explanation.
You see... the Prequels were shit, just hastily pumped out to get money.
Everything EA does is shit, just hastily pumped out to get money.

See! The ironic similarities are overwhelming!
Drown in the sadistic pleasure I get from pointing out the painfully obvious!

EA has basically eliminated every studio they own except for DICE, Bioware, and Visceral. That'a a hell of lot of quality men and women making your Star Wars game. And since they come with such a large install base EA won't try to make it "appeal to the broadest audience possible" because the audience for a star wars game won't get much broader. This is the best case scenario

As somebody who's felt extremely bitter over Battlefront 3's development hell and disappearance for nearly a decade - which continues to this day, even after the closure of LucasArts - I can honestly say no, not at all. Granted, LucasArts has been completely incompetent with the franchise in recent years and fully deserves every bit of scorn that they get.

However, this is EA we're talking about here. Not only did I not enjoy Bad Company 2 or Battlefield 3 (though I did enjoy the tiny BF 1943 quite a bit) and sorely wish for Battlefront to not end up like either (which it most likely will), but EA has that legendary track record for wrecking their non-sports IPs and development studios. Even after the departure of Ricciello (sp?) and their attempts to win back customers, they still haven't convinced me that they won't muck this up. The only thing worse than no Battlefront 3 is an abysmal one, at least in my eyes.

No matter what they do people are going to hate it. Seriously, Battlefront 3 could be the best game ever made and people will still complain about the series being ruined forever. Of all the possible chains of events between now and release in every possible universe, there's not a single one where the game will be given a fair chance.

I think most vote in this poll are going to be a vote against EA for the sake of hating on EA.

It's typical Escapist protocol.

That being said, I trust EA with the license. Let's be honest, they are probably the best company out of all of the big ones to take on the Star Wars license.

I couldn't see Square Enix, Ubisoft, Activision, Capcom, Bethesda or to be frank any other big publisher do as well as EA potentially could with Star Wars. Whether you hate EA or not, the above can't be argued.

While people may not like EA for their business practices, for the most part, EA publishes quality games.

That being said, LucasArts was too busy not doing anything good with the franchise anyways, I can't see EA doing worse.

Regardless of what you think of EA, it's pretty much certain they'll be able to do a much better job than Lucas Arts has done for the past few years. I can't remember the last good game they made, only titles I recall standing out as great were:
X-Wing
Tie-Fighter
X-Wing vs Tie Fighter
X-Wing Alliance
Dark Forces
Jedi Outcast
Republic Commando

And considering most of the Star Wars movies (I didn't like Return of the Jedi and obviously the prequels) were crap it's not like the Star Wars series has a lot of quality to fall back on

Well, all things considered the majority of Star Wars games for the last, what, eight years or so? Have pretty much sucked ass. So even if EA just spurts out mediocre garbage with too much DLC (Like it always does) it'll still be an improvement. Really, the only thing they might do well will be Battlefront 3, since it was basically just a Battlefield game to begin with.

Then again, they'll probably lock off the majority of it for DLC and microtransactions.

I despise EA, but after seeing Star Wars connect, could they really do any worse? I was far more afraid of what Disney Interactive would do, than what EA would do. We'll see what happens.
