My option is not available on the poll. It depends on whether the joke was in good taste or not. For example in my country it's normal to make jokes about your mates in any regard including race without any consequences. Obviously there is hateful racism designed to insult as well. It also depends on whether the joke is actually witty. If it was a well thought out joke and not just a cheap shot based on a stereotype then I might laugh. The world is also too politically correct for it's own good that it can't laugh at itself.

You don't have the option for an acceptable level. Playing of a stereotype can be humorous, but where that crosses the line is different for everyone.

Some racist or sexist jokes are funny, but theres a line. If it crosses the line and goes from being just a big goof to being in bigot territory its no longer funny.

I find sexist jokes funny as long as the person telling it isn't actually sexist.

Racist jokes on the other hand, not so much. I guess racial stereotypes have just gotten old for me.

It all depends on the severity of the joke and the intent of the teller. Generally, I don't think it's right. But in some cases, such as one of my black friends telling a black joke (thus, bring insincere and satirical), or the joke simply not being very offensive in the first place, it's fine. There are definitely some jokes that go too far, and I don't appreciate those, but for the most part if the jokes are told in jest and in appropriate context, they can be okay.

Me and my friends do make a lot of jokes about traditional gender roles, but I can't laugh at racist jokes. Usually because they're not funny. Ever. It's just playing off a racist stereotype. I have nothing against stereotypes usually, but the ones created as an insult are just stupid.

Yes. But it's not racism unless you repeatedly make jokes about just one or two groups of people. If you exhaust all stereotypes in your jokes but leave other groups out who have no funny stereotypes, then it's not racism. E.G., I can make a joke about black people, then Jews, then Aussies, etc etc and not make a joke about Andorrans because there's no stereotype for Andorrans. Ditto for, like, Bhutanese people and central Asian people.

So it's not racism if you A) make jokes about everyone, your own people included, and/or B) only do it like once or twice.

But sometimes, man, it's funny as hell.

Off topic, that musical is the funniest thing I've seen on stage.
My feelings exactly. I laugh at things that are funny, be them racist or not. Just because I laugh at stereotype doesn't mean I'm racist. When an Asian person gets in a car crash, I make sure there alright before I laugh. If someone tells a racist joke about my race (white), if its funny I'll laugh right along with you.

Being racist is completely arbitrary to a joke, and people who take those jokes seriously or ones who believe people who make those jokes are racist don't understand this. (Unless they are stupid as fuck and racist as hell)

I'm intrigued. I got called racist yesterday for laughing at a racist joke. I also enjoy a good "sammich, get me one" joke every now and again and my female friends seem to have no problem with this.

I'm not racist and i'm definitely not sexist (Hell, some might say I like women a little /too/ much.) But I see nothing wrong with enjoying these jokes from time to time. Especially if you don't say them in spite or to anyone you know is going to take offence at them. But of course many people disagree.

So, lets keep this thread clean, no actual racism or sexism here please!

What are your thoughts on this?
Many people draw the line of racism at awknowledging that there's different in race. If I call an African black for example they would call me a racist, why? He is black. A similar line is all to easy to cross with women, I don't believe they are lower in any way but in some ways they are different, and through personal statistics they tend to be more irrational. (As I said this is my own personal experience of women, there are still some I know who are in fact incredibly rational) In my experience racism lies within ignorance, if a woman is intelligent I would never reject that fact, but I hold my own expectations for everyone.

In short, I don't think I'm racist or sexist and I do enjoy those jokes quite often.

It's not a good joke UNTIL someone is offended...

OT:
I think they're funny, although I am not racist or sexist it humors me to see the reaction some people have towards them.

So an Andorran walks into a bar... the bartender goes "hey are you Andorran?" The man says "Why yes I am." The bartender proceeded to beat him until the police showed up.

Eh? Do want? I give up..

It depends on how it's delivered. Dave Chappelle's racist jokes are friggin' hilarious. Take these bits for example; would anyone really find them offensive?

Note: I would not advise reading the comments. Now that shit I fucking terrible.

Guess your version is a literal version.

OT: I'm not racist or sexist, but I still find those types of jokes funny.

I just find it so funny how i can just insult someones race and/or sex as a whole, and they are ready to throw punches. It's just a beautiful feeling, when all i said were just a couple of words.

I'm not racist. I only make fun of red head and asian but its cool cause they dont have a soul. Also I really don't make fun of women because a reported named Ron Burgundy told me women have a brain a third the size of a man. Picking on dumber people is just not nice.

Well, whatever. My real answer would be: Carlos Mencia was a blight on the Hispanic community.
Short answer: No. Only tools who don't have the talent to make good jokes and think of real comedy resort to fucking racism and sexism on stage or on screen.
