I constantly find myself playing games I absolutely adore but end up not finishing them or not doing everything available (side quests, challenge rooms, etc). I was wondering if this happens to many others or just me.
For myself, I don't really know why I do this. I think part of it may be due to school and work, so in the time I do get to game, I want to do something new, and not just do exactly the same thing as last time. Also, it could be that new games get realised every week, and that there are already so many great and interesting games out there, so the pile of games I have yet to complete grows.
For example, I absolutely love Dragon Quest IX: Sentinels of the Starry Skies, and played it pretty much constantly when it first came out. However, just before I finished the main quest, I just stopped playing (although this was due to me FINALLY finding a copy of Mega man Zero collection, which is impossible to find in the UK, and I had to go back to school). I actually started playing it again earlier today, which made me think about it, and write this thread.
This also happens to me for books, comic and TV series and other things, but it bothers me the most in gaming, as games are more expensive.

Oh, and BTW, If there is already a thread like this, I apologise. I'm fairly new to this site :p

If they're good and not too big I'll finish the main story and most of the side-quests.
I still need to get around to finishing Digital Devil Saga actually.

Main and side quests, but I'm not big on going around to get every collectible in the game world.

Never, I tend to quit a little bit before the final boss. Then I can't get back to it since I left off at the hardest part and don't want to replay the 60 hours to took for me to get there (since I do a lot of the sidequests when I do my first run).

Not only do I finish games, but I will do every single side quest, and pick up in game collectables no matter how much of a pain in the ass it is.

If I love the game, considering everything to be done. 100%, I say I'll Platinum trophy it but online one's are stupid.
But if the game is not super, and I get bored....it'll get shelved for another day

Depends on the game. I always complete the main storyline, but I tend to reserve Sidequests for games that I truly like.

I would say I finish about 95% of the games I purchase. There are a few exceptions. I generally always finish good games, crappy ones not as much.

I'll play a game for as long as it keeps me interested. Normally, I do finish the main story but as far as side quests go I'm not so diligent toward them

Often I do the main quest and some of the side stories but I don't think I have ever finished a game to 100% with all content gone through.

I really really hope you won't be playing Xenoblade Chronicles... you'll be playing that game forever.

Yes, pretty much all the time. Especially since I'm a bit addicted to trophy/achievement collecting. Lately I've been skipping games because I couldn't be arsed with the frustration though.
/glares at Jak & Daxter Trilogy to PS3

Dear God no, besides I don't own a Wii, so I will be saving myself from that.

I'm not knocking the game, but I've read bout game. I'm not a masochist.

When I can and have the time to. Depends on the game though. Some games I'll go for the 100%, some I just play through the story, some I don't manage to finish...

For example, I played to 100% in Super Mario 3D Land, but only played through the story of Batman: Arkham City, but was completely satisfied with and love both of them.

I use to finish pretty much every game I bought even if it was terrible because I didn?t get that many. Now though? I finish most games but I don?t necessarily go for 100% completion unless I really like it and if I find I?m not having fun with it anymore I play something else. I no longer have the time or the patience to spend too long on one game, especially if it?s not brilliant and I don't need a game to just be a timesink. My list of unfinished games is growing.

I think that?s one of the reasons I haven?t played Skyrim anywhere near as much as I played oblivion even though Skyrim is for the most part a better game.

I'll usually attempt for 100% completion on my 3rd or 4th play through.

I really don't have all that many games that I've really completed all 100% though, I usually get hung up at around 95% with that last 5% being just a little too out of the way to be enjoyable.

I used to be terrible with finishing games. I always just stopped 90% of the way through for no real reason. These days if I like a game I will put in the effort to finish it. As for 100%, it depends. I usually do a lot of side quests, but I won't do super hard challenges because I don't enjoy those types of challenges. I like exploring, so I usually go for a lot of collectibles. For example, in Batman: AC, I got every Riddler trophy and challenge as well as every side quest, but I didn't do a single one of the separate combat or stealth challenges.
