O Rh + blood type, been donating regularly for about 4 years. Feels good to know that I'm having a positive impact on people's lives. I may end up falling into the "unable to give blood due to medical reasons" category eventually. The last time I gave blood, my heart rate was at 43bpm. (the minimum required to give blood is 40). The reason why my heart rate is so low is because of my cardiovascular fitness, which I've been steadily improving upon since I started working out.

Although I suppose I could get around the "heart rate too low" thing by doing pushups or something just before giving blood.

I have O- blood so I donate whenever I can. I want to be a medic in the army you see, and I think that every little helps. I like doing whatever I can to help.

not really... I've got A+, which is fairly worthless. great if I ever need it, but they typically want the O stuff (+ or -... cant remember). my friend has O and they constantly send him spam mail to go give blood! he's totally in demand! I'd say he should sell it for like $50-100!! I mean, they sell it to patients in accidents for hundreds more so... why not?

actually, since you can give blood like what, once a month(?), you should go online and google search for a listing of blood donation centers. usually they give you a list of upcoming locations AND WHAT THEY ARE OFFERING. like our Walmart tends to give away $10 gift certificates all the time and sometimes I've seen cool stuff like full 1 day Disney passes. so if you're going to give it away, you might as well as shop for the best deals! so unless you really really like getting drained for fun or whatever noble reasons, then you should be careful with who you just hand over a bucket of your blood to! I mean, we had a Chic Fil A (or whatever) here that gave a free sandwich... not a full meal, drink not included, no fries... just a $1 sandwich. not worth it if you could get a Disney pass elsewhere! >)

I would like to, but i have a minor fear of needles aswell as a low blood-presure( I am quite tall, and I pass out if I stand up to quickly). I almost pass out from the small amounts the nurses take when they are testing for diseases.
I think I have 0+ blood, so it would do good if I were to give blood.

No. I've tried twice in the past, but neither time was I granted someone who could find my damn veins, which is pretty funny seeing as I'm one lean son of a *****.

They ended up getting a little blood from me both times. Not enough worth a shit, but they got a little bit. After they prodded the ever loving fuck out of the insides of my arms, of course, leaving my with bruises that covered two-thirds of the surface of my underarms, bruises that lasted for a little over a month.

I imagine I'm just one of those people with oddly structured veins who only the most competent of doctors and nurses could find, and obviously they're too busy working to be doing blood drives.

I really should, but unfortunately I'm pretty uncomfortable with needles. Traumatic childhood experience, I guess.

Travel of the international variety says I cannot, currently. Oh, and that weird blood contagion I have where anyone whose blood is mixed with mine becomes a misanthropic, philanthropic lycanthrope, but mostly the travel thing.

I used to do it all the time in high school and a little bit in college, but I haven't in a about a few years.

I got so busy that I knew I was going to get rejected because the iron level would be low, so I figured there was no point. I've been thinking about doing it again though.

Yep, every time I can. Free tea, tea cakes and caramel wafers? Bleed me dry for all I care.
