Well, of course. Do you think my character would also roleplay? All roleplay I do is in the real life.

(Badabam. Actually I had an idea for a game in which the characters were people playing a game, so there'd be a level of meta. There would be a perk that allowed your character to figure out dice were secretly thrown, for instance. Well, anyway, get back to the discussion, i'll crawl back to my hole now.)

If the OP means LARPing, I haven't. Not out of thinking they're freaks, I actually respect LARPers and other geeks like that, just out of disinterest and that it would be hard to start.

Do I roleplay in real life? Thats a bit like asking someone if they're a prolific liar!

I've done tabletop D&D for the most part, and dabbled in Paranoia and Mage: The Ascention. I also had a brief introduction to LARPing in the form of Vanities: The Dark City; a LARP based on Vampire: The Masquerade, set in and around a WoD-esq Fife, Scotland. My character was rather heavily based on my own life (negating the need to dress up in anything more than my normal clothes), and the game was run by a Games Master without peer. I doubt I'd do it again unless the same two conditions applied.

I used to, with a couple friends during recess way way back when I was in first grade, then stopped at like third grade.

We also built badass sandcastles and shit, it was awesome.

Similar here. Except as an adult I do it with any girlfriends I have that don't have a bug up their arse. Not just in the bedroom. But out on the street. It's fun having a girl their snickering at Best Buy as I speak a really bad British accent (I'm American) with the mental attiude that I'm James Bond explaining to the floor person I don't need the extended warrenty plan.

I haven't said "Miss Moneypussy, do we have the 50 quid for the plan for this DVD player?"...yet!

I LARP, and don't quite get the revultion it seems to cause around here. Sure, I can imagine it seems very strange to people who don't get the appeal of it, but then again, so do all gaming.

What most outsiders see is a bunch of people in pseudo-medieval armor beating the shit out of each other with rubber swords. What many outsiders don't realize, however, is that many LARP groups are tightly knit communities wherein close friendships prosper. Also, getting into the gear and getting out to try some things you certainly won't in your boring everyday life can be a quite nice experience. I have many fond memories of LARPing, but I will spare you from them now : )

Another commonly held misconception is that LARPers are freakish nerds with no life - I must say, though I've certainly met quite a handful of those types in the 5 years that've passed since my first LARP-session, most of the serious LARPers I know certainly aren't no-lifers. They get drunk, laid and do stupid stuff frequently, just like "the cool kids" do (not saying that it's necessarily a good thing, just that they're not rotting in their basements when not playing elves and orcs in the forest)

I must note, however, that I'm from Denmark, and I have the impression that the LARP-milieu here is quite different from that in, say, The States, so what I've said might not be true in other parts of the world.

(also, excuse poor sentence structure, typed this at crap 'o' clock in the night)

If I role-play? Well my good sir, I hardly think you have the right to barge in to my private life and... Oh, you mean THAT kind of role-playing. No, I don't do that kind of role-playing.
xD Wow. If I didn't already add you as a friend I would have, just for that.

And no, I don't.. I couldn't see myself trying.

When I was 8, 9, 10, 11, I was insane with it. I role played in real life by myself for gods sake. Now? No. I do it plenty on the internet and in games, though.

And my girlfriend LOVES Twilight (i know its a bit annoying) and she always says she's a sparkly vamp and that im a werewolf.

Its pretty funny acually.

No.

In MMOs and on this very forum, yes, but not in real life.

I think I'd just be on the verge of laughter the whole time. The people I know who do LARP only increases my wariness of the whole idea.

It's all very well when your on the net essentially writing a story as a group, a completely different matter when your running around with shields make of ply wood and getting strange looks from people walking their dogs.

What do you mean by real life role playing? Do you mean games like dnd because you play those in real life and role play or do you mean like run around with foam swords pretending to be knights? I role play in dnd but not on the internet or mmos because its just silly :\

I play DnD occasionally, but its probably been a year or more since the last game I played. Even then I had only done it a few times before.

every time I'v played D N'D or anything of the like, it felt like I was doing English homework instead of a recreational activity

I don't LARP, but I do play D&D with a group of friends. Although it usually degenerates into a bunch of friends hanging out drinking.

I love all the disdain and heterosexual assertion that this question triggers.

Geeks really split hairs to stratify themselves sometimes. :)
