So I've come up with a theory as to why people from the US and people from Europe (ie the general populace) have such difficulty seeing eye to eye. The problem is...drumroll please... the damn ocean. It is really, really expensive to cross. Therefore, the impressions we have of each other is based upon what we see, on television, foreign policy dictated by leaders most of the populace disagrees with, or some other form of misinformation. We rarely if ever meet someone from Europe (especially outside of major cities). It's a lot easier for a Brit to travel to Ireland or France than it is for the US. And, the people who do make it across the pond fall into one of two categories.
The first is the stereotypical US tourist. A fannypack and cargo short clad overweight family uncomfortable with any city block that doesn't contain a McDonalds or Starbucks. We understand if you hate these people because we do as well.
The other type is the respectful traveler. They come to your country and appreciate it for its differences. However, since they're not wearing US flags on their T-shirts they usually go unnoticed. I encourage all people to come to the US, experience what a great country this can be (not saying we're better) and give us a chance.
so the problems not terrorism!
its TOURISM!
i understand their pain. im from hawaii. the tourists from the mainland (CONUS) are annoying as shit and they mock the hawaiian culture while trying to experience it via tour bus.

when will people realise that americans as we know them today are not a race at all but an independant colony of mixed races and cultures. alot of them without the common sense to prevent their beliefs reaching laughable extremes.

the best example would be some of them believing the bible as absolute historical fact and that humans co-existed peacefully with dinosaurs 5000 years ago (facepalm material)

americans are the natives that the british colonists nearly killed off and i like them because they went through all that and still stuck to their beliefs and cultures

I am an American. I hate our current government but I mostly just hate Jack Thompson, that guy needs to sign up with World of Warcraft so he will have something more worth while to occupy his life, and PR personnel, They are a blight upon the face existence, no-nothing assholes, and their pancreases are stupid.

Americans in real life are the nicest people I've met out of any country I've been to.

Americans on the internet are annoying loudmouthed idiots. My friends and I are all "older" gamers (mid twenties to late thirties) and we all agree that squeaky voiced abusive screaming American kiddies have made playing online with our PS3's impossible. So we hate online Americans for ruining something we love.

To all online Americans of the whiney lose-your-temper when you get beaten variety: No I'm not cheating; I'm just better at it than you. And no I'm not a "fag"; go ask your mum she'll tell you.

I wouldn't go as far as to say I hate anyone, it's exhausting enough just to hate one person. The American's that I have met in the flesh have been very friendly. I've had my disagreeances with many on XBL, but if I can help it they will be on mute. Nothing worse than being called a Frenchy repeatedly because they don't think you've heard them the first gazillion times. But I'm confused as to how an Aussie sounds like a Frenchman...

I would not consider myself a "stereotypical" Australian; I don't surf (I hate the beach), I hate all kinds of football, I'm not a great fan of AC/DC (I prefer the Smiths) and I can't remember the last time I said G'day. That said, despite all the loathing I feel for the very idea, I'm a patriot. My heart leaps at any recognition, no matter how small, paid to Australia by other countries. Bear with me; there is a point lurking nearby.

Up until recently, I loathed all Americans. I was kinda brought up that way; my parents had always hated what Americans were doing to the the world, and this was drilled into my head from an early age.
Then I started to wonder why I hated an entire society for no reason whatsoever. I came to the conclusion that, for the most part, it was my parents' fault. However there is another reason. And so I no longer hate individual Americans, however I still hate the idea of America.
The "concept" of America is something I just can't stand. America wields it's name like a sword; anyone dares to stand in their way will get chopped up, their pieces stomped on and shat on. This is not an ideal shared my all Americans, obviously, but just the name itself possesses a planet-sized ego, a sort of "we're-better-than-you" arrogance that simply radiates contempt for everyone else. Which brings me back to my first point.

Patriotism sucks. However, as embarassed as I am to admit it, I am human, and unbidden emotions spurred by lines on maps is simply a curse I have to deal with. America treats all other countries with uttter contempt, and I can't help but just hate it.
So, to answer your poll, I would have to say some of them, not because they're Americans, but because they're a**holes, which you're going to find in any country anyway. Hating a country isn't the same as hating everyone in it.

Nothing against Americans themselves, I just dislike certain [http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4mCDZMWVWuc] aspects [http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=d0nD_iNPalY&feature=fvst] of their [http://www.japanprobe.com/2007/01/fat-americans-japan.jpg] culture [http://www.imdb.com/title/tt1073498/].

The ones I've met in person (which are very few) I disliked very much. Through the glory of the internet I've also met Americans which are ok I guess. Even some I actually like.

Every time an American calls my country "Ausfailia", it hurts.

Every time an American calls me a weaboo when that word isn't even in the Australian lexicon, it hurts. Plus I'm not a weaboo, I'm just Scots-Irish.

Every time somebody American makes a joke that either Scottish or Irish people drink too much... I can deal, because it's kinda true. ^___^

Not to mention the American soldiers stole our women in World War II... grrr. "Overpaid, oversexed, and over here" was the insult I used at the American exchange student who kept flirting with the ladies. He soon realised what I meant and said "oooh historical BURN".

im saying after so many negative comments on the US you have to wonder if thats what he believes or if its actually satire thats relevent to the game he happens to be reviewing.
This is contradictory to this:

because the part in his review about the american military all being so selflessly patriotic it makes him want to puke, could have been left out.
... since he was most likely referring to the American military's representation in the game itself or related media.

as for peoples opinions being a fad. peoples opinion of a certain Mexican song and matching dance were great in the mid 90s! was it a fad? YES AND SO WAS THEIR OPINION OF IT!
That's... irrelevant. You labeled in the original post the negative commentary as a fad, with your "cool to hate America" phrase. It implies that people just jump on the bandwagon without actually having legitimate reason to have their, apparently unpleasant, opinion. Which is just... not the best ground to base a conversation on, to put it mildly.

Anyone else find it odd that every time someone starts one of these "Do You Hate [insert name]" threads, that many of the complaints can be applied to virtually every single human endeavor?

Arrogance.

Aggression.

Strange Undergarments, etc.

Are these not issues that can be said to exist as part of any nation (especially a world power)?

I'm scared of a country where tens of thousands of people per year are killed because of guns. That said I don't hate America; I've had few interactions with them but they seemed exactly like people from Australia, some good some bad.

I think a lot of this anti-American feeling going around at the moment is due to Bush's rush to war and how it appeared that all Americans were war crazy (freedom fries instead of French fries etc.)

I tend to hate conservative gun toting morons, and since that is the steriotypical yank I'll go with 'most of them'.
