Oh wow, i just read the post after voteing. I've never read the web comic, i just hate the ctrl-alt-del command. When i use it, i ususally have to log out to get my computer unstuck, and it generaly takes a good while to work. Over all , i think they could design a better version for it to quickly get people unstuck without actually booting them off.

I don't hate it, but I suppose I don't quite love it either.

More flexible options, please.

I'm guessing it's something like with Halo and how it is cool to hate it?
I think it's much more to do with something you perceive as being bad also being spectacularly popular. I mean, imagine if something like, I don't know, one of the recent Sonic games was the best selling game of all time; it would be understandable to start shouting that people had gone insane. I'm not saying that Halo or CAD are especially deserving of hatred, or that hatred is a particularly advisable reaction to them, but saying that it's only based on what's "cool" is pretty fucking insulting.

Concerning CAD, there's a lot of things I could dislike it for, but I think the only thing I actually care about is that I don't find it funny. As has already been pointed out, it tells jokes badly and that, broadly speaking, is the only thing I'm actually looking for from my webcomics. I don't hate it though.

Edit: Actually, you know what, I guess I do hate it, for those stupid chef ones where he just says random words. But that's more to do with my own personal hang-up of people mistaking nonsense with humour, which in turn is probably caused by The Mighty Boosh series 3 being so shit for the same reason.

The parodies are worth a chuckle but he is pretty much the Leno of web-comics, plenty popular and funny enough but his choice of material leans toward to the obvious or outright stolen jokes. And he tends to be overly verbose for no real reason. I read it for years, but after seeing his characters lives repeatedly get better and better despite a chronic inability to change and when they do change it is maintained for a single comic before they return to the old ways. The only good thing to ever arise from CAD was, L.H. Franzibald. Someone whose "work is poorly written (comically so), contains many tropes, and steals ideas from popular media." I wonder if that could be applicable.

Don't like any gaming comics, don't even penny arcade. They're just not my bag, baby.

I don't hate it. I just don't find it funny. Like at all.

It had it moments early on, mostly when it didn't star any of the main characters, but it complete fell apart with the infamous dead baby comic.

Personally, I love CAD. The story aspects started off okay, but with the stuff that so many people hate for some reason, he kicked it into high gear. I always loved all the characters, but the story wasn't taken all that seriously. The last couple years, it has, and the comic has never been better.

Seriously, people: you're going to hate on a comic because it has an involving story? Really? I understand that most comics don't have that same emphasis, but are you really going to be so shallow as to essentially say "Don't have emotional storylines, just do what every other gaming comic does and keep pumping out mindless humor and social commentary?" Could you be more shallow and conforming?

I'm not a fan. Not because of the rediculous serious plotlines, not because of the poor joke structure that sometimes pops up, and not even because of the sheer amount of dialog. I dislike it because I don't find most of the jokes that funny, if at all.

I hate Tim Buckly with a passion, and more or less dislike his comics. They used to be pretty funny back when he wasn't famous and so arrogant.
More or less this. I thought it was mildly amusing at first, then it started getting not so funny, then the whole miscarriage arc popped up and between that and the "I decide if the comic is to be funny or serious, so eff off" incident I decided that I'd rather not read it anymore. I mean, yeah, he draws it, he can do what he wants, but a paradigm shift without a clutch is going to annoy some people. I guess I'm one of them.

IMO Buckley actually manages to edge out Ramsoomair as the worst well-known "geek cartoonist".

I hate the way all my friends like it, since it's a pretty horrible comic. I don't hate the comic itself, but the art is bad, the jokes aren't funny, and I really just don't see any reason to read it. (And yes, I did read through the ENTIRE archive way back when.)

Didn't like CAD because why would you want to write a webcomic about abortion? Okay, maybe Scott of VG cats did that too but at least he puts a spin to that.[/q]

The contrived "plot" was about a miscarriage, not abortion.

OT: I like all of it, I can say proudly
As much as it pains me to use the phrase, "This."

I don't understand why people hate it to be honest. Could someone enlighten me to the reason(s)?
I think haters mostly...well, hate it because of the more dramatic direction Tim went with the comic. I love the comic, too, but only because I've grown somewhat attached to the characters over the years. I miss the good ol' days where Ethan would just get drunk and invent holidays or build time machines, but I also care now what actually happens to them.
That, sir, is called character development, which movie critics love and most shallow people hate. Most gamers just want to see stuff blow up and hear witty one-liners instead of seeing characters slowly evolve.

And the same people that ***** about CAD are the first to ***** about characters being one-dimensional in RPGs. The irony, oh how I love it.

EDIT: Not all people that hate CAD are closed-minded.
The thing is he's built the whole of his comic around Ethan being an idiot. What's he gonna do when he FINALLY (God in heaven hurry the fuck up with that) gets married and/or has a kid? He can't be retarded forever, and then Tim's comic just kinda..dies. Or he makes a new one. I just don't see the Ethan Tim has established as being a believably serious person. Too much of a 180.

I don't hate Tim... I just think his work is starting to slide. The plot comics are getting on my last nerve with their melancholy. I miss the old days when he'd work in an insane subplot like Zeke malfunctioning and nearly killing them. Now its just everyday bull. However his parodies are still spot on. Whenever he does them every few months.
