I've been playing The Bourne Conspiracy over the weekend and it made me like quick time events again, it showed me that so long as they are used appropriately they can be enjoyable.

I only don't like then when there random and unexpected, for stuff like God of War and Resi 4 where there a big part of the actual gameplay there fine.

Yes. They're totally pointless and add nothing to the game. In fact, you often miss the epic finishing moves just because you're paying too much attention to the small spot there the button appears. The only game I've seen that might do them well is Heavy Rain. Otherwise, they're just a cheap way to simulate player interaction.

i don't hate them for the most part. occasionaly they're done really badly, i.e Jericho. but generally i think they're not as bad as people make out.

I don't like them. Come on, video games can do better than mimicking Simon and making us press the A button 1000 times/second. And whats the point of having an intense fight on screen but then forcing us to look at command prompts.

If they are done well, then they are amazing, example God of War.

If they are done bad, they suck massive balls, example Spider-Man 3.

So, even if done right, it's all opinion on if they are good or not anyway.

I hate them most of the time, when its "press a to pick up plot specific object during cutscene" they suck but I love the "press a to sucker punch during cutscene" type QTEs

I actually liked the QTEs in PoP 2008 during combat. Strange, I know, but if you missed one, it didn't really punish you and if you got it, you got a nice flourish of gorgeous visuals.

However, the Warrior battles made me want to snap the game in two. I don't even know how I finished them.

Quick time events are ok in my opinion if they stay far away from cut-scenes.
QTEs should be reserved for enemy special attacks and grapples.
I think the best implementation of QTEs Ive seen was in Dead Space, because they invoked panic (like a survival horror should) and would generally reward the players for pulling them off correctly.
Also, while some were button mashers, some were much more creative (the drag tentacles come to mind).

No. In games that do them right, they are just fine. There are some games that would be better off without them, but that still isn't a reason for me to hate them.

Dead Space had some good QTEs. I'm ok if they are one: not in cutscenes; and two: not button mashers. The vast majority of other ones are okay, sometimes even enjoyable.

Farenheit and God Of War had awesome quick time events.

Thus, I like them :D
Fahrenheit didn't really had good QTE, but Heavy Rain seems to have better use in them.

I normally do hate them, I haven't found a game that does good use of them, maybe because I'm a PC gamer, but still I haven't found a good use in them.

EDIT: Dead Space did had a good use of QTE though, I just forgot about it. It's just it's not the normal "Press X to not Die" form, DS has like "Press X to kick the Idiot who is biting your ear", so it's not immediately game over, you just lose some health.

Yes and No, sometimes they make the game better and most of the time they really do start to p*** you off Example X-men Origins wolverine fighting the sentinel QTE came up took over 10 times to do.

Nah, quick-time events are perfectly alright, so long as you know the game has them, first. It adds a little bit of "you're doing something" to the cinematics. However, I find that almost all of the games that feature quick-time events do not mention the fact that there are quick-time events until you are crush by a pile of bricks- see Uncharted: Drake's Fortune.

It's not so much meant to be a minigame on its own as it is just a way of making a cutscene a little more interesting and immersive. When used well, it works. What I don't like is when they put in the generic "press the button on-screen as soon as it comes up" thing. It was alright for RE4, one of the first to use it, but it's definitely stale now. What's better is some method of control that closely relates to what your character is doing.

For instance, Modern Warfare 2: To climb an ice ledge, press the left trigger (move the left hook forward) then holding it, press the right trigger (move the right one forward) release, and press left again.
That sort of thing gives a very light feeling of being there, so it's good.
