Depends on what the game aims for. If it's deep, if it wants me to be immersed in the story and empathize with the characters, they should give it realistic armor. If it's 'just a game', I don't mind my eye candy =)

As for the breastplate, wasn't there a video of an armor expert talking about how non-functional that it, how that will make it so much easier to get you killed? =p

one thing I don't get about all these people that hate it, have you ever thought that its fantasy
I mean anything is possible in fantasy settings why bring reality and logic into it?
something that I really hate is fantasy bound by reality rules like now a days if I wanted to create a dragon that breathe bubbles that explode into meteors made of sand people get all up in arms because dragons are lizards and are known to breathe fire and blah, blah, blah. its FANTASY its not real it doesn't matter if it makes sense or not take it for what it is and stop bitching about lack of realism in a fantasy setting

It's less the lack of realism and more the lack of consistency. If we expect things like swords/rocks/pages of books/internal organs/shoes to behave more or less like we would expect them to, we should also expect armor to do the same.

I do find it weird how the female armours from games like Guild Wars and Monste Hunter is quite different compared to the male armour in which they a more exposed face and abit of upper arms/ upper legs. Is it they wanted less armour weight and more agility?
Ok granted it could of been worse but I do want to see more similar armours to each other (look the same except for the shape).

While there's nothing theoretically wrong with "slut plate" and its cousins, I do feel that seeing ALL the time is tiresome. And sure, there are exceptions, either of the armor being sensible or the choice actually fitting the archetype. But for every exception there are a dozen examples where its simply pandering. And any argument of 'well its a women's right to choose how they dress' ignores the fact that these are fictional characters with no independent beliefs of their own, and are in fact usually designed by men.

Of course I love it. Who wouldn't? Crazy people, that's who.

I'm not one of those people who thinks "but that's just a bikini, how does that protect her?!? My suspension of disbelief is broken!!!!"

I don't care, but why are there NO SEXY MALE ARMORS IN GAMES EVVVAAAHHHH!!!

Oh right, because then guy programmers and art designers would feel 'awkward' and 'dirty' yet don't scrub themselves clean when they make the most revealing feminine armor.
I am waiting for a male lead that goes into battle with Henry VIII's magnificant codpiece.

It bothers me ultimately as I don't see how it protects but I'm a massive pixel hugger so...

But I do find it annoying when they feel the need to make females appear sexy while it gives no benefits and actually makes it weirder as it doesn't make sense.

Recently there has been a division among my group of gamer friends...Sexy female armor. Half of them wish the armor on a female would look more realistic than form-fitting or showing off skin. While the other half says it's just a game and if a creator wants to make their character look and dress sexy it's perfectly okay.

I can understand each sides argument, but I lean more towards the not being bothered by it. I am female and I don't find sexy armor on females exploiting or offensive in any way. At the end of the day it's just a game and the character isn't real.
.
The problem here is that there is no base-live for female armor. No female combatants actually ran around with armor specifically made for females. There were females that wore male armor and fought in it.
Depends on what you want in your game, fan service or realism.

And don't bother pulling that 'BUT I DON'T FIND THAT SEXY!' bull on me. It's 'sexy' in a shallow way, exactly the same principle as this [http://desmond.imageshack.us/Himg337/scaled.php?server=337&filename=hw1w.jpg&res=medium]. And if you're really serious about the idea that not a single woman/gay man is even *slightly* aroused by that kind of thing, then women are objectified more because it's actually possible to do so without spending years on character development.
Well, maybe some people out there are attracted to wrinkly blue barbarians wearing three kinds of skull. I don't judge. But Rule 36 is not a good argument for "but males are objectified too!"

can't say I do
women are usually portrayed as being nimble, athletic and all that, requiring lighter armor for better mobility

however, an armor made of glass? THAT's preposterous

Don't really mind it if it's in a context that is clearly non-serious, but in a game that's meant to be serious, it just seems stupid and out-of-place. That said, it is rather overused even in non-serious games.

Define "sexy armor". Black Widow from Iron Man 2/Avengers? FemShep light armor (pretty much skintight, like male armor)? Bayonetta? Ashley Williams Spectre armor?

Or..Female World of Warcraft armor?

Because if it is the latter, I can completely agree. If it is the former, I simply shake my head.

I dont mind it as long as its realistic. Its fantasy after all even most male armour is unrealistic in truth.

DA armour was pretty good, Wow is getting pretty good at this as well. Go look at the last few Tier sets and season gear.Plate tends to be very androgynous while anything that is more revealing is reserved for classes who arnt supposed to get hit.

Rogue T13

Druid

But even then wow is now turning to wow factor as apose to fan service

Priest T13

Some of Rift's armour was pretty good, others were just...Sigh. Apparently AION's plate classes were pretty well covered but I never played it so I couldn't say for sure.

Honestly? This:

"Sexy" armor doesn't really bother me, nor does it particularly get my attention. That said, there is at least one instance of sexy armor that I honestly despise:

This "armor" is ugly, distracting, and gives me unpleasant images of rust in certain unmentionable areas.

I don't find it to be too much of a problem, tbh. Possibly due to the fact that the games I get usually don't show an abundance of them in consecutive fashion as well, but nonetheless.

In my opinion, as long as the developers aren't going too far with how they sexually portray the woman in solidarity with their scantily clad figures, I'd most likely have no issue with it. Although, sometimes certain character designers can get pretty impenitently ridiculous in how they dress their females, 'ey. *cough* Yosuke Hayashi *cough*
