i think the m16 is exactly what it is, a mid range assault rifle, so you can run to someones face and blow a hole in it, your not supposed to, thats why it has the burst setting, i think the idea was to pick enemies off at a distance

or a really powerful gun to strap a noobtube to, i dont know

The speed of it is what gets most people. The ability to kill in one burst which is like a quarter of a second. There's no time to react. if you drop and M16 wielder and an M4 wielder into a battle, exact same skill level, M16 will win, purely because of speed.

thank you!
i love the M4, because it can fire fast and powerful, and if you tap fire it can kill snipers at sniping range
but it just gets owned by M16 :[
last night i used the M16 for a whole match, and murdered. i know the satisfaction of those three bullets smashing into someone at any range, and the +10 coming up (or 5, 20, 50 etc)
i have become the thing i hate the most :S
i understand the gun needs skill, but so does any other gun, and with the M16 you can get away with less skill (no offense to the people that use one)

I have to say I am not the best COD4 player and 50% of the time my kills are less than my deaths, but using the M16 almost feels like an easy button for the game.

I get waaay easier kills with it than any other gun to the point that I just end up going back to my G36C because I feel like I'm not improving my skill or challenging myself enough.

What exactly is the problem?
All weapons do roughly the same damage per shot on all distances with the same amount of time spent shooting. There are a few exceptions, but those have other advantages.

If you're really bothered by it, use juggernaut.
