Obviously my Commander Shepard is the same from ME 1 to 2, and will be the same in 3, but that's because I didn't have to make him over again.

Usually I make new characters when I play a different game series, but I try to stay with a central theme if I can.

How about all of you? Got a character that crosses dimensions often?

Im trying to not to, but my main charcter is usually essentially the same person. Now though I am trying to diversify.
Some of my most favorite characters are accidental.

Edit: But my main character is based off me so I guess it makes sense...
#2: Though I did make my Mass Effect character in honor of my KotoR character, so they look similar, though my ME one looks like my KotoR character years later.

I sort of just make it up as I go along.
For Fallout: New Vegas, I just made it up on the spot. First character was a doctor guy, second character that I'll make will be a crazy chick that blows stuff up.
Cause I can.

It's generally fairly the same, some minor differences in character, but not too much. Since most games I play are quite different from each other, it remains fun for me.

I always tend toward the ranger/sniper types.. In DA I went ranged rogue, in ME I specialised in snipers, Fallout 3 it was small guns and sneak. I try to diversify every once in a while, but it seems my natural play style lends itself to that kind of character..

I always tend to make my good character called Rose and make them blonde from back since Baldur's Gate :) My Fallout NV character is Billy but shes blonde. My Evil characters are called Electra and have dark hair. :p I don't know why I do that it's just a habit I guess. I want to called my daughter Rose if I have one.

I think she's kind of pretty took me a while to make :)

Not intentionally, but a lot of my characters end up looking pretty much the same, unless I intentionally go for something different.

always high on stealth, but I'll bounce back and forth between CQC and explosives
fallout 3 for instance I have 2 characters, one which can sneak up behind you and stab you, and since I have melee and sneak maxed out and a flaming sword of fire and stealth armor I'm essentially the grim reaper with slightly more tasteless attire, on the other had I have I have a character who carries nothing but explosive weapons and sneaks around all the time
the kind of guy who'll walk into a room full of enemies, go into sneak, walk around sticking nades up in every ones nads, leave the room, and laugh as he hears BOOM BOOM BOOM BOOM BOOM BOOM BOOM BOOM!!!!!!!!!!!!! also on the note of the character design I usually take a preset and act really nice all the time so everyone's really surprised when they turn around and that big pile of caps that they'd been counting a second ago has been replaced with a landmine... how did that happen?

I try to make my character a handsome version of me. Or an Argonian. Lizard people trump me.
Edit: Fighting style? I always roll the rogue/thief character class first.

I guess I could say I have molds sort of, but every game is different. Dumping all my magic in ice spells just isn't the same in DA as it is in WoW (what with the four spells in ice magic compared to the entire tree in WoW,) nor is shape shifting nearly as fun. So a lot of times the characters I make from the same source are loosely connected.

I've always wondered this same question about others. Mine is mostly regarding names/race combos, and fighting styles.

Elf Archer = Shalst
Dual Wielding Warrior = Vazzaroth (the name and indeed my online handle is based off the duel-wielding jedi knight I played in KOTOR)
Dwarf = Daulber
Dwarf WITH GUN = Kleibstoff
Tank type Human= Arkell/Arkella if female (The original character was female)

I have a few more in my name reservoir, but I usually only recall them when I'm strapped for names. Most of them have roots in Dungeons and Dragons characters I played or liked. I always do a mini-celebration every time I'm the first person on a server to make a cleric named Jozan :D
As far as looks, theres a few common features I choose to make sure they really are that character. Arkell MUST have black hair like the original fighter in our Campaign. Vazzaroth MUST have slicked back brown hair like he had in KOTOR. Daulber MUST use two handed axes.

Snipers or close-quarters experts for sci-fi games, expert swordsmen, bowmen, or assassins for fantasy games.

Generally looks like me, same psych profile too. Normally some sort of survivor with a military history and normally on the paragon side of actions that likes to snipe things.

if I'm doing fantasy games, I turn into either a back alley stabber or a paragon of all that is good in the world with a big glowy sword and armor that looks like I'm wearing an Abrams tank costume

Whenever I play a game that allows me to customize by character, I almost end up as a latina looking woman.

And I'm an Asian man! What does that mean?

I mess around a little, after two or three playthroughs I have a 'set character' or two set characters who behave in specific ways.
