I want one. Maybe two. I don't know what I want yet though. A lot of people want something cool and/or unique, and I guess that's what I want for mine but I wouldn't describe it as just that...but I am not sure what yet.

That's a problem for me. If you have an image already in mind that you want done, that's fine with me, but if you pose this question to yourself: "I want a tattoo but I'm not sure what I want to get" do not get it, that's how dudes end up with all that bullshit tribal garbage.
That rule me out then? :p
Look, as long as you aren't actively looking for an image you'll be fine. The image needs to find you, as much as that sounds like the kind of bullshit that Yoda would spew.

I kind of hate tattoos and think they ruin skin. So no. I don't plan on it.

I have 4 tattoos that I got in my early 20s. I still love one of them. The other three I could live without. I got two of them because my boyfriend was a tattoo "artist"and I thought "why not? We've got nothing better to do.". Yeah. He had a tattoo gun and the ink, any way.
My advice....put A LOT of thought into it and make sure it's something you will want for life!

I think this thread has already been done, but since you are still newish here you should be ok, just a simple mistake.

OT:

I really like that, a scarab right? Im sorely tempted to consider something of that type, on my arm, an icon from an ancient religion seems pretty high up, or some sort of symbol. Doesn't have to have personal meaning, out of interest does this?

I Just love ancient Egypt and all the symbology that surrounds the scarab , that for me was reason to get it, and when i have children i will have their names put around it in hyroglyphs =]

Of a Top Hat, yeah.
OE WAYTE! THAT'S REAL!
But No. I don't.

By the way, anyone who's getting tired of me wearing a top hat, just PM me. And I'll promptly ignore it and then POST A THREAD on Top Hats.
We wouldn't want that now would we?

My advice: Make sure you get your tattoo in a place that is easily concealed during an interview.

No, I'm only 15 and I think a few years down the road I would probably regret it. They can look pretty cool but just not for me.

No. But I really really want one. But I can't seem to heal without scarring, even from something as minor as a cat scratch (yes, clean them). Like them on others too - anywhere but the face.

No, I think tattoos are primarily ugly. I've seen some good ones, but overall I have been very underwhelmed by them. And I think tattoos should not be on the female body, because the female body is gorgeous and all tattoos do (in my opinion) is clutter it up.

That said: Do what makes you happy. Who the fuck am I to tell you what to do with yourself?

+1.

Tattoos are for life. Think of this: love changes: generally speaking don't get names tattooed on your body until it is somebody who is a blood relative, or you are honoring someone special to you who has passed away.

I hate to break it to you: Musical tastes change-- you could get away with tattooing a band's logo on you if it is intrinsically cool, but the name? It's entirely possible that you might not like the band when you're 70. And hey? What if your eventual significant other loathes the band? What do you do then?

Three rules of thumb: design it yourself if at all possible, don't put it any place you can't comfortably cover up with clothing until you have established yourself in a career (so you won't potentially be costing yourself opportunities) and sleep on it for at least 6 months. If you still want it after that point, then you'll probably be happy with it long term.

My avatar is one of my tattoos, left bicep. I have another tribal on the right deltoid that wraps around out to my right pec and back to my shoulder blade. I also am designing circuit boards that will go on my arms in reactive ink, but that project is kind of on hold at the moment. (most of the inks haven't been FDA approved yet.)

I consider my body a commitment to bad tatoos, these include a large tramp stamp (male) and the phrases "fuck me" and "fuck you" sloppily etched into my right and left thumbs (good-bye dreams of a job better than dishwashing). Furthermore, they're all poke-sticks (see 'jail house'). The only person more twisted than myself during the tatooing periods were the friends performing the tasks respectively.

I'm planning on getting the Mark of the Gears from Metalocalypse on the back of my neck. Also, when and if I go bald, I'll get a barcode on the back of my head.
