I never knew that there are caps. I've heard of ISP rolling back bandwidth when a customer is doing some heavy Internet usage, but never heard of a cap. What countries and/or ISPs have caps?
Well, my country has caps, South Africa. A very small cap at that.
If I'm not mistaken, I believe that there was a study that showed that the internet speed in South Africa is slower than simply saving the file on a USB stick and sending it using courier pigeons. Of course, that's distance and file size dependant, but the point of the study is to show that the internet is insanely slow there :p

To have insanely slow internet and a cap. My condolences. We are indeed privileged here in North America.
I read that story, and I have no limits, 'cause this is America. Limitations are for the silly people.

I have no cap on my internet service. Good thing too, since I usually go through about 60-100 gigs of downloads a month.

*shrugs*

I dunno, I dont think I have a cap but I dont pay the bill >_< That being said, with the amount of internet my family uses, I very highly doubt there is a cap because if their was we would be over it.

No cap beyond what is commonly called "fair usage". I'm not sure how far we would have to go to fall foul of that policy - gigs a day I should think, been running on it for a few years without a hiccup (/touch wood).

Just did a speed test and got 9298kbps download speed and 1106kbps up.

I knew you could restrict certain sites, but not a whole internet cap. Weird. I'm sorry to anyone who has it.

My plan (AT&T, $34 a month for 5-meg) has a built-in meter. Starting at 80GB they charge a buck a GB for overusage.

Not that I've ever come within a country mile of downloading 80GB in a month! Most I ever used was 50, and that was thanks to a Steam holiday sale binge.
I use an average of 500gb a month :X

And yes, in my country it is limited on almost every plan, but usually you can pay a small fee to remove the limit or activate free services like electronic bill and automatic pay and they extend your cap to 10000gb for it, essentially making it unlimited.
500GB? Now let me ask you this...do you engage in widespread piracy/filesharing/other illegal activities? Because AT&T's stated reason for their bandwidth cap was that "reasonable customers will not encounter this limit, and we are seeking to limit potential legal difficulties with content owners and providers while allowing our customers access to their legitimate products and services" (quoted from the letter I got outlining the policy when I signed up for service).
I do fileshare, although I would disagree in the illegality of it, specially in my country that has no piracy laws. However that only accounts for like 50~150gb of bandwidth per month, HD streaming, legal downloads, PSN downloads and gaming account for the vast majority of it, at least 300gb on a decent month.

What is this internet you speak of?

OT: No I do not have a cap, and have not heard of such a thing until I read this thread. I could survive with capped internet though, I went an entire summer without internet because my monitor decided that working was for squares... yea.
